I've been a bit out of the loop this week. I just learned that the legendary Dick Dale passed away on the 16th. He was for my money the best of the surf rock guitarists, but he also helped develop (with Leo Fender) the first 100-watt guitar amp, was one of, if not the first, to integrate the Arabic sounds of his Lebanese heritage into rock 'n' roll, and was a huge influence on the West Coast punk scene.
I'm an unabashed Frankie and Annette fan and Dick Dale and the Del Tones in beach party was probably my first introduction to his music.I love his surf music, Dick Dale's surf guitar is surf rock.
He has a very fun Spotify and with warm weather I recommend firing it up.
I don’t know how I missed out on Nana Grizol the first time around, but I’m glad they got back together, because I love their sound. It’s a raw, DIY kind of sound with catchy tunes. The kind of band that would sound great in your local club. Did I mention they have horns?
The teal album is a bunch of silly covers, but enjoyable.
I have a problem with their cover of “Africa” in that it doesn’t sound like Weezer. If you have nothing to add to the song, no take on it to make it your own, then why bother?
I can’t think of very many albums which are all cover songs (outside of someone singing the American standards), much less many that are good. That being said, American IV crushes.
I agree with yall I am not a fan of most covers. But Cash managed to take a few songs that I loved and do a better version than the original artist. Stuff like Rusty Cage,Personal Jesus and Hurt.
As a kid I heard lots of Merle Haggard thank to my grandparents and my father. Hadn't listened to Merle in almost 30 years. Then middle of last year I had stopped at a nearby Dollar General to grab a drink and and a snack for my trip to see my lady. While looking thru their selection of DVDs I see they had a Merle Haggard greatest hits CD for 5 bucks. Took a chance and it has become one of the most listened to CDs in the past 4 months.
Makes me wish I had seen Merle in concert when I had a chance to.
Okay, I listened to Teal Album and Pacific Daydream. The funny thing is Pacific Daydream has a lot of the same problems for me that Teal does. Their sound is so different, I can barely tell it’s them. I have no problems with bands changing/evolving their sound, but on both these albums, Weezer sounds no different than 30 other bands I could name. The guitars—a huge part of what gave them their distinct sound—are pushed way back in the mix. The drums, bass, vocals, and keyboards are mixed just like every other alt-pop band on the radio these days. In other words, they sound generic. The songs themselves are fine, they just don’t stand out in any way.
Just started on the White Album, and based on the first song, it’s more promising at least.

I forgot to mention one I actually own. I don’t know if there any other The The fans here besides me, but they/he did an album called Hanky Panky, which is nothing but Hank Williams Sr. cover songs, and it is also highly awesome.

I know it happens to people, but it is a little sad that the rockers from 60s are just getting old.

Best part they have Spotify playlists
I've been listening to a lot of Weezer's teal and black album.
I put on the Otis Redding live from Monterey Pop Festival record this weekend. Wow. He was only 26 when he died.
I've really liked the last 4 Weezer albums slot.
The teal album is a bunch of silly covers, but enjoyable.
Barnes and Noble was running a sale criterion movies and I ended up getting the Monterey Pop one.
My wife doesn't like the teal album for the same reason as you.
The best cover albums I have ever heard are Johnny Cash's American albums. American 4 is just emotionally crushing.

I think Pacific daydream feels a lot like Pinkerton. Definitely not a color album.
I look for that
Awesome man, I'm listening to it right now. I can't believe you have kids old enough to make records. Time flies by.
I actually enjoyed the album.
