Glad I was a backer of his Kickstarter thingy and got some of the awesome goodies. Also a proud owner of a commission piece (that reminds me...have to post it somewhere...)
That's awesome. I don't have a commission so I can't be one of the cool kids there, but the only piece of original art I own is an Athena Voltaire page. So does that make me one of the cooler kids?
I posted an update to the Athena Voltaire Kickstarter supporters earlier today. I addressed some of the publishing questions that I thought folks would have, going forward. Here are excerpts (with Kickstarter-specific concerns deleted):
What's this "remastered Omnibus?"
When Paul Daly left the book, he took his contributions with him. This includes some supporting characters and elements of AV's backstory. My initial thought was to let the material fade from memory when the print run sold out and continue on with The Volcano Goddess as the new starting point. But the more I thought about it, the more it bothered me that I would be losing nearly 200 pages of work that Chad Fidler, Jason Millet, and I spent thousands of hours on cumulatively.
I contacted Paul and asked him how he would feel about me rescripting the existing art and he gave me his blessing. The new material builds upon much of what I'm doing in The Volcano Goddess and fleshes out the "new" AV universe. How will the Omnibus affect the people that bought the previous Athena Voltaire material? Aren't they being hosed by having to re-buy the Omnibus?
I'm writing The Volcano Goddess as "new reader friendly," so that readers who bought the old material can still catch up without purchasing the Omnibus if they choose not to. The Volcano Goddess will also be a good jumping on place for readers unfamiliar with AV.
I hope I've managed to assuage any concerns that you may have had.
I'll be posting a preview of the Omnibus on the Athena Voltaire Facebook page in the coming weeks. If you're on Facebook, but haven't joined the party, here's a link:
I'm not sure if it's too early to ask this or not, but will the Omnibus be one of the smaller sized omnibi that Dark Horse typically releases or full size? I'll admit that I'm kinda hoping for the smaller size. I already have most (all?) of the originals so I can see the full size art if I want to, but the cheaper price would make it easier for me to justify re-buying something I already sort of own.
And more importantly, why does the Firefox spell checker not recognize the word omnibi? It seems to recognize omnibuses, and that word might technically be allowable, but omnibi is definitely preferred (at least by me).
Never really read Athena Voltaire because I always seemed to miss it. I love Dark Horse Omnibus, having nearly all the Star Wars ones as well as a few others, and am looking forward to it.
Congrats to Steve. This will give you a lot more exposure... perhaps even an Indiana Jones cross-over (DH has the comic rights to that)

I know the temptation is strong to pluralize Latin or Latinate nouns ending in "-us" by simply, automatically replacing the "-us" with "-i," but the problem in this case is that we're talking about a word that's already plural: "omnibus" is the ablative plural of the pronoun "omnis," and it translates as "for all things" or "to all things." Attempting to pluralize the word further by turning it into "omnibi" just doesn't make sense according to the rules of Latin grammar, so slapping an English "-es" on it really is the best way to go. This court finds in favor of Firefox!
...Oh yeah, and congratulations, Steve! Athena has found the perfect home! :)>-
I looked it up before posting that to verify and I know I saw something about omnibi, but according to dictionary.com, The Murd is (once again) right. I bow to the Murdonian vernacular awareness.

(No rush, honestly! Just giving you crap along with the congratulations!)

Hopefully, the preview will give you a good idea of how different the Omnibus will be.
