I've always enjoyed your posts @John_Steed and I am sorry that you are losing this battle. May you find peace and painlessness in the hereafter, may your loved ones remember you fondly, and may God give you grace as you pass from this realm to the next.
Thanks for the good times. Your posts were always the most exhuberant and optimistic, a great counter to the normal cynicism most fans express. Glad to have known you!
Wow. You've been around since the middle of CGS Year One! You mentioned something about this back in the summer of 2011. You're good people and always have been. Excelsior.
@John_Steed So sorry to hear. please know that you're a beloved part of the CGS family and we're all going to miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
WOW....sorry to hear this and from my point of view I was hoping to never read this, You sir will be missed and I gather strengh from having known you and will carry that strengh with me during my battle. Godspeed
I am terribly sorry to hear this, @John_Steed. I've enjoyed our interactions and wish we could have had more. I tip my bowler and raise my umbrella in salute to you for all the strength and courage you’ve exhibited in your well-fought battle.
Damn. Seeing this really puts anything else we are debating, discussing, or fighting about in perspective. Also, I am moving this to the comics talk community section, as this doesn't feel right in something called "off-topic".
John, thank you for spending time with us, and being one of the most active members of the community, especially in these past months when I can only imagine what time has meant. Thanks for the laughs, the occasional non sequiturs and things that you translated across cultural lines. And thanks for your honesty and bravery in talking about what it is you have been facing, and for saying goodbye.
All comfort and grace to you and your family during the time and travels ahead. We'll miss you.
I don't know what to say in situations like this. It makes the whole social media platform feel kinda arbitrary and moot when dealing with INCREDIBLY serious issues like this. And in reality, it is. I'm uncertain what I can say or do. But I will say this:
The fact that you came here to give us a heartfelt goodbye speaks volumes to how important this community truly is. And the fact that so many of us show up on a thread just to get our own personal goodbyes in...speaks even MORESO to the man YOU are. And regardless of how well I know you or not, losing someone like you is never easy. With that said, I leave you with a poem from my favorite poet Robert Frost. It may be the easiest of his (and most famous) to reach for, but that doesn't make it unfitting for this.
Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.
I'm also speechless. I only know you through this forum, but feel like we're losing one of the cornerposts of this gathering. I don't know what to say but that I'm sorry... and that I hope it's a peaceful passing, with as little pain as possible. And thanks for sharing your time and opinions with us these past years.
@John_Steed There's nothing I can say that will mean a damn. I have truly enjoyed the far too few interactions we've had on these boards. This hurts. As Matt said above, fight til the end. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I don't really know you, but I can tell you that you have changed the world, just by your brief time on it. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Thank you for being a part of our little community, here. You have shown a strength and courage I could only hope to possess.

You will be missed here.
I will miss you, my bowler-derbied friend.

Raise a tankard for us poor unfortunates down here as we raise one for you. :)

I could say something cliche & corny, but then I feel more awkward then if I inserted a witty comment.
I could reference a biblical verse, but it's not in my nature...and I don't know any.
Instead, let me say this; fight to the end. Go down swinging. Never stop fighting & never surrender.

Lost my brother to this last year.
All the forum sends you our love and support.
May those weeks be long and happy ones
Is there a cancer related charity you would like us to donate to in your name?
I know it wasn't for me but I am truly honored that you thought enough of us to tell us goodbye.
I hope and pray that your last days are as painless as possible, and that your friends and family are filled with peace.
