I've never brought into the whole variant cover scene, but boy do I love these...

It is really going to be hard to not break my boycott of the New 52 and not buy some of these. Fortunately, I've pre-ordered the poster print of that Supergirl cover. Hopefully the rest will be in the 2015 Bombshells calendar. I'm guessing DCBS will have one of their bundle deals for these.

Yeah I must admit I have never ordered variant covers. For this month I just couldn't help myself. I've preordered most of them.

I really love the Batwoman and Mera ones.

Well, it looks like DC is fully embracing it's target audience... teenage boys who haven't discovered online porn.

And yes, Stargirl and Supergirl are teenagers, as in 16-ish.

While I love the idea, and some of the designs are great fun. Unfortunately, I think the execution is a bit lacking. I would have preferred more Gil Elvgren and less Jim Balent.

Truthfully, I think that's why I was uneasy with it when I saw her image here.

I don't like the supergirl one for the fact that she's a teenager but the Stargirl one really winds me up.

He probably ok'd it. None of the covers are overly sexualized, at least in comparison to any average month at DC. And it's not like it's a redesign. Just a variant cover. The conversation here is acting like the covers are somehow pervy. It's relatively tasteful cheesecake.

Also, Stargirl? Not a real person. They didn't take a real 16 year-old and mislead and seduce her into doing a raunchy photoshoot. And since as a character she will probably be 16 for the next decade and will be represented as an autonymous young adult, her in universes age is kinda irrelevant.

I think at some point as well we'll have to try and let go of that knowledge of why she was created otherwise it would just start hampering enjoyment of stories (not that I actually read them anymore) and maybe causing writers to think twice about things they wanted to do with the character.

I was going to respond with a long answer weighing the importance of positive female role models against creative freedom and finally how nothing suggested is any less offensive to me than teenage vigilantism, which I would find completely unacceptable in real life.

The short answer is Yes, I would not have an issue for exactly the reasons you state.
