I agree with you in theory, but I just can't afford to buy the same story in multiple formats anymore.

Well, I may not end up buying the collected version, unless the extras are overwhelming. I can't afford too many high-end books, so I usually reserve that for books that are only available in that high-end format—Blacksad, Toth’s collected Bravo for Adventure, Toppi’s Collector, stuff like that. The rest I go with trade or issues.
I've been getting it issue by issue and I can confirm what @hornhead said. It's a post-ragnarok story, and it's pretty great--not to mention beautiful.
