Whilst you can love (or more frequently) hate his art, he used to be an interesting twitter read and always had something positive to say about comics and just came across as having a lot of fun. In the past few months leading up to the Snyder thing he just seems to have lost his interest, I've thought about unfollowing him a few times but it had car-crash TV quality to it.
If he does take a break I hope he gets his love of comics back.
No matter what - there will come a day when there is no more Liefeld.
Who will be the comic artist the geeks of the world will most likely love to hate after Liefeld is gone?
Tony Daniels? And I met Herb Trimpe at the Denver Con last year. He was a little gruff but he did sign a G.I. Joe special missions trade for me. He had a packet of original art from the series for sale. Not sure how many pages were in the bundle but he wanted a couple thousand for the whole thing. I passed on that deal.

Is Daniels really on par with Liefeld? or is he just the next man up?
I quite like his version of HULK - a brute force when needed, but also a bit more tender at times. His work on other characters I had to google. Didn't care much about what I've seen there. Guess he will be remembered as a good artist on HULK.

Exactly! Trimpe's issues of the Hulk were the first Hulk stories I bought off the rack and I'll always have a soft spot for him because of those issues.
Rob (who full disclosure is a buddy of mine) is not retired. He's just fried from the Marvel and DC shenanigans (and believe me he's not alone), and also has some Hollywood things keeping him busy (and paid).
@John_Steed art is subjective, and I can't say that every piece of Rob's art has been a pillar of anatomical perfection. BUT...he was one of the first artists who really excited me, who caused me to look at art for the sake of it rather than because it was the next in the line of comics/characters I followed anyway. My appreciation for him now is much more personal than any attempt to defend his career. He does a good enough job of that on his own.

If you can judge a man by the quality of his friends, then I've been woefully underestimating Mr. Liefeld.
