Wow. Cartoon Network has made some truly mind-boggling and frustrating decisions with their scheduling over the years. Green Lantern's last new episode before going on summer hiatus was May 26th. Young Justice's was June 9th. Both returned 2 weeks ago and have aired 2 new episodes before what happened this morning.

Now Cartoon Network is saying DC Nation will return with new episodes in January. January?! That's only 2 new episodes over 7 months.

    Twitter

And they don't even say if it's new episodes of GL and YJ or if it's Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go.

Apparently CN has decided to pull DC Nation from the line-up without warning and replace it with Dreamwork's Dragons reruns. DC Nation had just returned from a 3 months hiatus 2 weeks ago and was scheduled to air new episodes into November, but the schedule now has Dragons in it's timeslot for the remainder of the month.

It seems it's been completely pulled from the network.

what? Is it April Fools? That network is constantly shooting itself in the foot.

Stuff like this is why I have given up on CN. I much rather watch the old cartoons on Boomerang ,cause at least with that network you know that the schedule is staying the same for years at a time.

It's funny, how this isn't even DC's fault for once.
  • I was looking forward to the upcoming episodes but it's easy enough to wait for.

I wondered what went wrong when I sat down to watch the recording I scheduled later on Saturday. I am not usually one to complain about scheduling but this is stupid. What was the point of bring the series back for two weeks.

The network had new episodes scheduled up until November 3. The episode that was meant to air Saturday was on Cartoon Networks website schedule until it was changed around 1 a.m. that morning. It was clearly a last minute decision. So much so that Brandon Vietti, the co-creator and co-producer, didn't even know it wasn't airing until it didn't.

They meant for the show to air longer than two weeks. They claim it was pulled due to their 20th Anniversary Celebration, but they've been touting this anniversary for months. It's not like it came out of the blue. Why did they decide early in the morning and only about 9 hours before it was supposed to air that it would supposedly interfere? And then leave the people who run the show completely in the dark and blindsided?
  • it might..... MIGHT have something to do with Milestone Char. rights. Pure speculation, when Lobdell admitted at the Las Vegas Con, that he couldn't use those chars. in his books.

Could it be related? Who knows...

all news was hereby given from the LoSP recent podcast... and all errors are mine, if so

Thanks for the plug. One thing I didn't get to in that discussion, since I'm still on season 1, and didn't know about the Milestone characters' inclusion until then, is that often, ancillary rights are negotiated separately from print rights, so there may not be a issue with using the characters in print, but that may just be secondary to a rights issue with the screen rights.ie, we have the print rights, but don't want to promote a character for which we don't own the ancillary rights. As I said on the show last night, it seems odd that, in the age of Dick Johnson, we wouldn't have heard all sorts of chatter about such a legal dispute. It also seems strange that clearances wouldn't have been confirmed for a series before going through the trouble of animating them, as usually legal is all over that. Watch any news or reality show, and look at all the blurred t-shirts. They tend to overdo the clearance thing, so this just seems like an odd misstep, if its the case. Again, we were speculating over a couple of beers, so take it as you might.

I saw this on Bleeding Cool and I thought this was a fun idea of why Cartoon Network may have pulled the shows...

Not sure if this means anything, but some fans have pointed this out regarding the Milestone theory.

The solicited cover for the most recent issue of the tie-in comic featured Icon.

But, when the issue shipped this week, he was absent from the cover.

So, it seems the tie-in comic is ending in February.

That coincides with the series returning in January and wrapping up Invasion in March. It's looking like CN is canceling or has canceled the series. Possibly Green Lantern, too.

Because the animation process is lengthy, a new season has to be green lit early on in the current season in order for it to be ready in a timely manner. As Greg Weisman has told us, from the moment they get the go ahead to start work on a new season, to the point when they have 5 episodes ready to air, it's a 13 month process. Season 2 was picked up a little over 2 months after season 1 debuted. Here we are over 8 months after season 2 started and 4 months away from it's conclusion and they still don't have a renewal. That's not a good sign. For either show.
