Comic Trading Cards

I used to collect these things when I was growing up. heck, I remember going to a hobby shop and buying a whole box for ten dollars. Ripping up the individual packages, not knowing what I was going to get.... It was fantastic.

What about you guys? You ever collect any cards? Have any faves, whether it be series or singular cards?

Yes, by the box load and still have four or five binders full of sets. Didn't stop there either as I bought into the Overpower and Wildstorms card games too. I could have bought a car with the money I spent on comic trading cards.

Oh yes, many of them. I still have a few Marvel Masterworks, Star Wars Galaxy, and several sets by various fantasy illustrators packed away in long-term storage. The only cards I still keep with my comic collection are my Strangers in Paradise trading cards, which I keep in an official Strangers in Paradise card binder.

I got a full set of the first Valiant set Upper Deck put out. And just recently a friend sent me a full set with the holograms of the DC cards from the 90s. She also threw in a complete set of the GI Joe cards from the 90s.

I was working at one of the Diamond warehouses during the 90's and I bought a lot of trading card boxes during that period, from the Disney features to some of the comic book series (Marvel Masterpieces) and quite a few of the artist cards (Michael Whelan and the Hildebrandt Bros to name a couple). Still have the full sets, though I'm lacking a few of the special cards here and there.

Never heard of this set. Was it as cool as the above card or as poor as that crossover Accsess( I think?) I picked up bin diving?

Ah, Access. I have that series.

I thought they were kind of cool... if not hopelessly 90's. (Ben Reilly, mutated Lizard, Urich Goblin, mulleted Superman, etc)

i spent so much money on those when I was younger. Still missing one card from the Marvel series from 88/89, the one that started it all. The Magnteo hologram.

As a kid I read Spider-Man, Batman, Hulk, etc...then a friend gave me a bunch of the early 90s Marvel trading cards. That is where I first saw cosmic characters like Thanos, Ego, Eternity, The In-Betweener. I'd flip the card over and their ratings for power, intelligence, etc were off the charts. Seeing those characters on the cards drove my imagination wild..I've been a fan of everything Marvel cosmic since.

I collected the first few Marvel and DC sets, and I had the first Marvel Masterworks set, too, the one that was all Joe Jusko paintings (though I didn't have the holograms for that one). Just kinda lost interest over time, but they were fun for a while. Pretty sure I still have most of them kicking around somewhere, maybe I'll see if my son is interested in them since he likes Pokemon cards and the ones that come with the Lego Ninjago minifigs.

Oh snap, @Mr_Cosmic! I loved those cards, explaining the power, intelligence, etc.

Pay special attention to Galactus in each one.







I can almost imagine Galactus in the last one saying: "...Hey!"

I thought so too until I took a hard look at it.

"Ability to sustain Peak exertion". I guess that means going all out, full-power.

And he can only go full power for under a minute, due to the great hunger, which is always upon him.

You know what, I really don't think I agree with it. But I'm not going to argue with a 1991 card! Those things are classic!

Yeah I love the cards I have and I keep them in a three ring binder which I passed on to my six year old son.

Still, I'm sorry but Galactus should be able to sustain peak exertion for over a minute! I realize he hungers but if matched with an equal foe he'd only be able to give it his all for less than 60 seconds?!?! As The Collector would say, "bah!"

I miss a good set of comic trading cards.

Marvel should put out a set of OHoTMU cards. That would make a great set and would fit the format nicely.
Same with DC and a DCnU Who's Who set.
