Batman Movie Reboot Pushes To 2017 - Wants Five Year Gap
(mtv.co.uk) The next "reboot" of the Batman movie franchise could be released in 2017, it has been reported.
Warner Bros is claimed by website Batman On Film to have decided to leave a gap of at least five years before making a new movie focused on the caped crusader.
But a new Batman is expected to make an appearance before that in the Justice League movie - which is projected for 2015 and has seen both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Armie Hammer tipped to star.
And it is thought that this could prove the launch pad for a new series of solo outings for Batman with the same actor starring.
Henry Cavill is expected to appear as Superman in the Justice League movie, if the soon-to-be-released Man Of Steel is a success.

Second, if this is a reboot, then you cannot have any of the actors from the Nolan versions return in any capacity or the casual viewer will think this is a continuation because they saw the actor in the last group of Batman movies.

I know it's different
It's just not that different

Despite the Oz commercials, Raimi didn't give us a Spider-man trilogy. The ending of 3 felt like another sequel, not a concluding chapter. Plus, Raimi was to return for a 4th movie, so there's indications 3 wasn't the end of his vision.
ASM gave us another origin story. I'm sure the Batman reboot will do the same because its the simple story to tell. (Note: Batman, Spidey, & Superman should no longer get origin movies...we ALL know the stories!)
AND, like with ASM, I don't plan on seeing another Batman movie in theaters. I am too satisfied with Nolan's version.
Looking at the Transformers movie; there were 3, but it didn't feel like a trilogy. If the next movie is a reboot, I've got issues. If its a sequel with a new direction, I've got less issues (depending on continuity & the changes.)

#1 - Nicolas Cage in Superman Lives - I'd have followed that balding freak of a Superman to the ends of the earth!
#2 - Batman Forever starring Michael Keaton, with Billy Dee Williams as Two Face, Robin Williams as the Riddler, and, introducing, Marlon Wayans as Robin - on a parallel Earth, this movie happened, and that universe imploded.
#3 - Chris O'Donnell... Batman Begins!
And the way casual fans come and go now 3 years might be enough between Rises and Justice League.
If the movie is written well and the actor is decent I don't know that it matters who it is as long as it's Batman.

A little review is probably useful for new audience members every few years/movies/stories (like the "For those who came in late..." strips that start every 2nd or 3rd Phantom storyline in the newspaper strip), but you don't have to always commit a whole movie to it.

The new Superman movie does well but below expectations of the corporate suits. This scares them off a Justice League movie. Then the next Batman movie does amazing business and we are right back where we started.
I want a poster of that second image, full color.
(Truthfully... I think I like that costume better than the one for Man of Steel. I can take the rubber look, I just can't stand all that "texture.")
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I've always thought casting him was a mistake. He's an overrated actor and director. Every role he has played, in my mind, he is never able to disappear in the role. I always think "that's Ben Affleck" and it takes me out of the story, I also think making this version of Batman so much older was ill-advised. Now, after so many missteps with the DCEU including the second or third director walking off of the Flash, I just think this whole DC movie universe experiment designed to compete with Marvel has been a disaster.
Full disclosure: I was disappointed in Man of Steel, hated Batman v Superman, and was underwhelmed by Suicide Squad.
Studio: Ben, we think your vision for this film sucks and we cannot let you direct this. Yes, we know this looks bad since we let so much garbage actually get made. We still have you under contract to star in it so play nice or we will sue you into oblivion.
Or...
Ben: Hey, I just got a thousand notes from you on a movie that has not starting shooting yet. I do not need this headache. I would walk from this completely but there is a contract, my last movie tanked, my kids like that their dad is Batman, and the support payments to Jenn are killing me. Call me when you need me on set.
I think we'll continue to see Batman sprinkled throughout the DCEU movies instead. He'll be used as Nick Fury character in the movies.

Although it's not like we haven't had plenty of good Batman movies to fall back on.

And you know what I'm fine with this. I'm someone who loved Man of Steel. Liked most of BvS but recognize it has a ton of issues. And didn't like Suicide Squad. And hope for the best for Wonder Woman and Justice League.
But with this and the issues with the Flash(page one rewrite, three directors leaving) maybe the best thing is for WB to just step back, take a breath and work this thing out.
This is looking like it's going to be a disaster for DC. Affleck now has no ownership in this anymore.
I confess, I was never on-board with Affleck as an older Batman to begin with.
Truthfully, I question the validity of this like I did when David Ayers denied Suicide Squad reshoots.

By the end of the week, at the latest, I'm sure there'll be a rebuttal by WB or Affleck.
