Purple-skinned anti-hero - what's his name?

When I was growing up, my dad had a few framed comics that featured a purple-skinned humanoid, who is vaguely reminiscent of the Incredible Hulk, though he certainly has an identity all his own. Although the story takes place on a version of Earth similar to our own, he is from another dimension or world. I am also under the impression that he is generally considered an anti-hero. My dad also had a few VHS tapes, about the same character, from a TV show that aired in the US, likely some time in the '80s and/or early '90s.

My memory isn't 100%, but the information here is true to the best of my knowledge.

You should try to hunt down the trades if you are interested in the Maxx. Those comics were real gems in the 90s. You can also get the Maxx series on dvd from amazon for pretty cheap.
Now if only DC/Wildstorm/Sam Keith would decide to put out an absolute Maxx.

Yeah, it was MTV. I want to say it was around the same time as the Liquid Television was on. It might have even been a part of Liquid Television. I remember loving that show and it introduced me to Aeon Fluxx.

The Maxx and The Head were part of MTV's short lived Oddities show.
