DC Solicitations for September 2013

DC Has released its solicitations for September: comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=45983

Geeze, Louise! I knew the Forever Evil crossover was going to dominate most of the month, but not to this extent! Practically every single New52 title out this month will have mutiple issues from 2 to 4, each with a different villain. That's more than I'd understood they were doing. This is nuts.

I am very, very seriously considering skipping DC this month, except for the non-New52 titles I get (and which, blessedly, are not involved in this mess), and I honestly don't know if I'm coming back to them afterwards. Maybe. Maybe not.

There are one or two in there that are very, very enticing -- such as Jim Starlin writing a Green Lantern book with Mongul as the featured villain (And why not? Starlin created him, after all.) -- but I just don't want to get sucked into this miasma. Before the New52, I might have been sucked in -- maybe. But this is too much. I draw the line here.

Yeah, as I said in the "gimmick" thread, I think this is the month I'll officially cut ties with DC...until things improve(if ever).

The three Justice League titles alone have ten separate issues among them! Ten!!! In a month!!!

We're looking at the real WTF? month right here!

I will get this one for sure (digitally):

    GREEN ARROW #23.1: COUNT VERTIGO
    Written by JEFF LEMIRE
    Art by ANDREA SORRENTINO

Lemire/Sorrentino still the only current DC product I enjoy.

ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #5 (just 5 not 5.1 BS)
FAIREST IN ALL THE LAND HC
SUPERMAN DARK KNIGHT OVER METROPOLIS TPB (Art Adams goodness)

That is it. The shortest DC month since Superman was killed.

I agree w/ Chuck. It is the real WTF month right there but I'm missing the pain to my wallet. so lucky me.

    I'm looking at...

    Adventures Of Superman #5
    Astro City #4
    Batman Beyond Universe #2

If I wasn't already looking at that First Kingdom trade from Titan, I'd be thinking awfully hard about the Deadshot trade, with stories by Ostrander and Englehart.

I cannot believe that in the future there will not be some type of villian's month omnibus. I will wait for that...unless DCBS has some incredibly fantastic deal on a bundle.

All together, I'm looking at getting a total of six DC titles -- all of which are non-New52 and all of which cost $3.99. That's a huge drop from what I usually get. What's interesting are the titles missing from this month's list: All-Star Western, The Green Team, The Movement, Stormwatch... among others. I see that some are being incorporated into the other titles for the month, such as all of the Green Lantern titles are, for this one month, replaced on the schedule by the multiple Green Lantern issues... but some of these others are just plain skipped over for the month.

I'm only getting hit for the two Earth 2 books, I'd rather just a have regular issue of Earth 2 and Worlds' Finest.

Wow, that is just an obnoxious amount of product right there. Out of all of those, maybe I'll get the Riddler book, and that's it besides my non-New 52 titles (Adventures of Superman, Legends of the Dark Knight, Batman '66).

Looks like the Sept. gimmick is Month of Suck.

It's dumb and it does nothing to build the business long term. However, knowing how the collectors mentality works and with the increased cover price, DC will accomplish its goal to dominate the sales chart...for one month.

You're probably right, but eventually, one of these stunts is gonna fall flat, and heads will roll.*

*To be replaced, no doubt, with even more cowardly, unimaginative heads.

Time to give a little positive for DC...
I do trades so cover gimmick from the 90s doesn't faze me.
Lucifer vol 2. - I'm half way through the first volume and I'm really enjoy the series. I finished the sandman Lucifer story last week (Absolute Sandman rocks) and started the Lucifer trade (collects 1-13). Why do we never talk about this series? Anyway I'm excited for the next volume.

Marvel is not giving up Sept without a fight. Lego variant covers. Image comics need to announce foil covers for Sept to really set things off.

Hey my Brigade issue one (from kickstarter) has been upgraded to a gold foil cover. Rob won't be outdone by that punk Harras.

What if everyone collectively DIDN'T BUY ANY COMICS in September? Not that we could...but I wonder if that would send them a message that we're tired of this crap?

Very short DC list for me this month. I won't be messing with any of the villain books.

    Batman TP vol 2
    Green Lantern TP vol 2
    Trillium #2
  • $2.99 2D covers, and in digital at that price, available at your LCS (but make sure you ask your LCS for it), according to this Bleeding Cool post.
  • There is so much craziness coming out of DC at this point. I don't even want to think about the stupid Kevin Maguire mess that happened earlier.
