I am heartened by the debate removing the buttons generated. I thought I was alone in a crowd when I questioned the reasoning last week. It just felt like a small but vocal minority took their ball away from the rest of us. I'm glad it is being seen that way. I guess the next question is :(unless I missed it) who had it removed and why so quickly? I always maintain it is the Geeks' sandbox, we just play in it, but who made the call that the negative ones disappeared but positive ones stayed? And why? It was not that big of an issue until they were gone.
...what we should be discussing, not which forum members are smug narcissists looking for validation (or infamy) in a stupid button.
It looks as though I am being the face of that minority, which is fine (I've been a scapegoat for worse over the years). I did not request eliminating them as an opinion, just 1.) people know the difference between when to use 'dislike' and when to use 'disagree' and 2.) people's anonymity for dislikes/disagrees were removed (hopefully motivating them to post a response and not just click an icon.)
As a people watcher, I think THIS route is more revealing about us. I did not realize how much people liked using the anonymous icons without actually responding. I was looking for engaging conversations...which I guess WAS the minority. If those negative icons were never an option, what would have happened? Would we have more lurkers than participants? Would we get more lengthy conversations?
But in all actuality I really don't care I just want to find a thread where I can discuss how cool Hickman's run of the New Avengers. I just read the first trade and loved it. The Illuminati mind wiping Cap and blowing up Earths
Mindwiping Cap came off like deja vu with Batman (who I normally equate in the same type of mold.) Especially since BOTH "died" and involved a 'magic bullet,' BOTH had their sidekicks take over the mantle, BOTH were lost in time, and BOTH returned with new costumes after a bit of time. Since Cap (and Batman) has this moral line and methodology that he doesn't cross, mindwiping him to forget it seems like their best idea. Having already read a similar situation (albeit with something on a smaller scale), this didn't seem like anything jaw dropping. If I were writing Cap (in his title or the multitude of Avengers titles) or Batman, I would be cognizant of what has happened in the other's book(s).
Well I remember when Mike got kicked off the show and I posted a comment thanking him for his contributions and wished him well and and someone disagreed/disliked it all I could think was "What the eff?" So if people use it to hide then its good they are gone.

Wow, that sounds like someone with an ax to grind.
