Halloween Horror Comics!

In honor of Halloween I thought I'd start a topic on horror in comics. Favorite titles? Characters? Writers and artists?

Personally I've always loved the 70's Marvel Horror era. Werewolf by night, tomb of Dracula etc. Currently I am enjoying Locke and Key (huge Joe Hill fan all the way around) and, of course, The Walking Dead, which is one of the few books to ever really deliver on page turning suspense.

As mentioned on another thread, I'm enjoying the hell out of the old Vampirella reprints from Dynamite. Amazingly beautiful artwork, great writing, and just a great way to go back and visit when comics weren't as concerned with making movies or licensing properties.

I read some of my older brothers Dark Shadow comics as a kid and loved them. Werewolf by Night is always a favorite.

Jack Russell as the Werewolf by Night is always great.

I also kind of like Tales of the Zombie by Marvel starring Simon Garth.
  • You know what, totally forgot to mention even though I was reading it this week... I've been enjoying Beasts of Burden from Dark Horse by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. It's basically about the cats and dogs of a neighborhood protecting the community from supernatural threats. Not exactly all-ages but pretty close. 12+.

I think there was a Neil Gaiman short story with a similar premise. I think it was called The Price.

I enjoyed the Marvel Zombies stuff from a few years back, they were just fun, some of the next volumes got a little less so but the first one I enjoyed.

Of course here's another opportunity to mention how good Revival is
  • Scott Shaw! offered this underrated tale from a relatively obscure comic published by Dell Comics in the 60's. I remember the book and the story and it did actually scare me as a kid.

Anybody remember a 70's horror comic with a scientist that is losing his vision transplants wolf eyes into his face and becomes a werewolf. *spoilers* pretty sure it ends with the wolf leaping at his buddy and flying over a cliff. Pretty sure my copy didn't have a cover even when I started but if it did I would have read it till the cover fell off. I'd like to pick that up again if I could remember the title and issue.
