The entire night was one heartfelt sendoff. It was such a rare treat to see Dave being not just a talk show host, but a father as well. I'm so glad I decided to stay up and watch the episode when it aired (as opposed to catching it online the next day).
This thread is the bastion of on topic sanity the other topic should have been.
I don't particularly enjoy Letterman but I watched the finale out of respect. My personal favorite late night host was Craig Ferguson, but I understand and respect Daves contributions to the medium. Great show.
Out of all the since-Letterman-started nightly talk show hosts, I say Ferguson was the one that drew from Dave the most. And his show, the Late Late Show, was produced by Dave's production company, Worldwide Pants.
Nice final episode. Dave was my favorite in the late 80's, then my tastes changed. Lots of great memories discussing the episodes with my friends at school the next day!
Saw Dave being interviewed before the Indianapolis 500.
On TV, or were you there? I've been there 3 or 4 times in the past 12 years.
Sorry, no, on the television. Is he an owner of an indy car? He was wearing a team's colors and it seemed like he had a stake in the race. They also talked about how his first national TV appearance was covering the race as a pit reporter back in the day.
Paul was on Marc Maron today and Paul mentioned it's been two years since the show was off the air. And I was thinking that doesn't sound right. But it has been. Good interview. He has an album and a tour with the World's Most Dangerous Band.

Made me think of this from Seinfeld. Kramer with Merv Griffin's set is what @Pants should do with David Letterman's set.

Yep. At one point, I believe Danica Patrick drove for him.

EDIT: I forgot Victor Garber was part of that production, too.
