I'm a new father, but since I've been married I've tried to stockpile cool books, toys, puzzles or items that I would like my children to read/play with.
Enter a project my wife found last night Buildies - They are like giant cardboard legos for fort building. They are really cool (the video is great, "Give a kid a pillow and he will build a fort"); we each individually backed the early bird fort kit. They are a little pricey, but awesome.
I'm not backing anything right now, but what i look for besides comics are musicians/bands/singer/songwriters and what I look for are the ones that are pressing their tunes to vinyl. I look for games, boardgames, non-collectibale card games, miniature wargames and video games. Lastly, being a foodie I look for new kitchen inovations, recipe books and so on.
I'm getting back into the wait until I get some stuff I ordered from KS mode. This month should be huge for getting stuff. On the card game front, did you order the game Villages (it was a project that completed in Feb)? My wife who doesn't game at all wanted me to get it.

Villages doesn't sound found familiar. When it comes to the gaming stuff I have to keep pretty good track of what I back, because there have been a few times that I backed too many projects and it came back to bite me in the arse. Unfortunately we had to get a new car so I won't be backing anything for a least a while.
Villages was a non collectable card game that used 8bit characters as the art. The video of the game play was simple and my wife thought it looked fun. The base game should be coming in the mail soon.
My uncle just launched a Kickstarter campaign for his final issue of ImageS magazine. If you're an aficionado of the golden age of illustration, please help him make his dream a reality.
ENDS 12:07 EST. This project has met its goal and you can still get in on it.
These are regular playing cards with special art and backstory. If you're into card games or board games, you should get in on this. Only 9 hours left!
I guess my Uncle Jim's Kickstarter project is rapidly approaching its deadline. The remaining time left is now listed in terms of hours. He's already reached his initial goal, so the book will be produced regardless. He's also including some stretch goals which he's very close to achieving. If he can hit $15.000 (as of this posting he's at $14,880) he'll supplement the book with additional pages, and (if possible) have it square-bound. He'll also print a limited edition Loius Chalon portfolio. For the full details, click here.
Funded! I'm sure being backed by many creators in the comic book industry helped my uncle's campaign immensely, but despite their strong presence this project wouldn't have been funded without the support of non-professionals as well. One need not be in the art biz to appreciate the illustrative medium, as evident by the outpouring of support for this project.
If you're into table top games and have ever played Munchkin or any number of it's expansions/spin-offs, then maybe this would be a fun little project for you (if you haven't, you can purchase the deluxe package for just over $20 at Amazon). The project is already funded so we're just working on the stretch goals right now.
And I just received an email about poster art... guess who one of the artists is? Someone I've met, at Supershow!
"KATIE COOK is well-known for her commissioned work for Marvel, Star Wars, Fraggle Rock and more, and is the creator of the widely beloved webcomic Gronk: A Monster's Story. She is also the artist for IDW's My Little Pony comic series, based on the popular animated series, which has become a best-seller for all ages. As the daughter of a librarian, she is also a strong believer in the importance of reading (and Reading Rainbow)! You can see more of her work at katiecandraw.typepad.com, and follow her on Twitter as @katiecandraw."
A friend of mine launched his Kickstarter campaign the other day: 365 Songs for 365 People. Basically, if you pledge $5 or more, he'll write a 1 minute song about a memory you submit that will be posted in 2015. Or you can pony up $60 for an 8-minute epic, or $150 for him to bring his entire set-up (and, in his words, "a shitload of Twizzlers") to your place for a performance (location pending, of course; he's in Michigan, travels a bit each year).
I should mention, too, that he performs as an actual one-man band; think Dick Van Dyke in the beginning of "Mary Poppins," but folkier/bluesier/generally-hipper. He's a talented, funny, good guy. You've got at least $5 and a song-worthy memory, so give it a shot.
Ok this is one of my favorite projects I've seen in a while. If you fish you may have seen gloomis rods for around $250.00. Well a few years ago gary loomis started a new rod company called Edge. Those rods retail around $500-$600+ Anyway he is kickstarting his new line of Edge rods for $150.00 https://kickstarter.com/projects/58394716/edge-first-strike-bass-rods-by-gary-loomis
I am backing the Star Trek: Axanar KickStarter as well. The fan work keeping the original Trek timeline alive is really, really amazing, and this may be the best I've seen so far.
(Yeah, I'm one of those Trekkies that pretends the JJ Abrams films never happened. :P )
This is a Kickstarter from a company that makes some superhero gnomes. I currently have the Bat Gnome, but I'm planning on getting the Wonder Gnome and Super Gnome.
I've got two new projects The first is Designers & Dungeons - this is a four volume set (divided into decades) of the history of roleplaying games. It focuses on company histories. I'm currently reading the 70s (the 70s and 80s volumes are available in pdf form to backers at $15.00 & up). It starts with TSR and goes forward.
Next is Kamala Speaks - a biography of one of the great monster heels of wrestling. I heard about this from an interview of Kamala on the Steve Austin Show, and I never a guy from Parts Unknown would be have a soft spoken southern accent
The first is SumBlox These are number shaped blocks that help young kids with math. So two 5s stacked are the same size as the 10, or 1 and 3 stacked are the same size as 4. I thought these would be great if you have a young child.
Then there is Salt Pack. A mesh bag that can expand and to different sizes. It's made for saltwater use and allows you to carry most of your basic gear (snorkels, flippers, other stuff). I do outdoor water stuff so I though it might be a good edition to the kayak.

Handcrafted, organic, single-origin, bean-to-bar, dark chocolate....and it's made not far from where I live.
It's already funded but looks really impressive and more funding just means more likelihood of better stuff.
