Catching up on CGS

I took a break from reading comics after Avengers vs X-Men, And was already dodging most of the new 52 books anyway. This year, I decided to catch up in pretty much everything. And this, that meant returning to cgs.

It's fantastic hearing these familiar voices, and a bit bittersweet. Mike getting off, an episode away from Pants going, and of course, will eventually work. My way to Jamie's last episodes.

But knowing that, I'm glad that these are new to me. It feels like stolen moments, if that makes any sense.

I'm curious, is anyone else catching up, or has to catch up like me?

I can't remember exactly when I started listening to the show. For awhile it was one of those podcasts I didn't subscribe to because there were too many episodes I had no interest in. There would be moments where I'd go, "Oh yeah, CGS. Lets go see if there's any new episodes I might be up for."

I mean, I always loved the guys and what they did, but certain topics just weren't for me. Then a few of my regular podcasts I listened to either podfaded or just didn't interest me anymore and I subscribed to CGS. Then I went to Supershow in 2011 as part of the LanternCast crew and met the guys in person.

That has a profound effect on people who listen to the show like I did. You get to know these guys, consider them friends and you live in freakin Texas (where, let's face it, they're not going to show up for a con anytime soon. lol). So you listen in to keep up with your friends and suddenly you're interested in everything they have to say, even if it's something you didn't previously care about.

So I guess I've been listening regularly since 2011. But I never went back to the old stuff. All of this to say, I downloaded the first 50 episodes shortly after hearing about Jamies passing and thought now was as good of a time as any to listen in. So at some point, when time allows, I'll be slowly working my way through those episodes, then download another 50 more.

I listen in spurts. When I am reading a lot of comics, I listen more, but in my recent job transition, I haven't had much time to read as I would like, so I slipped behind. I also jump around a lot…there are some I listen to and some I don’t, I’m not a completest. I love when they go over new books, so that I know if they are worth buying, and interviews with our old pals like Uncle Sal and the like. I’m pretty much past the “I’ve got a new book coming out” interviews, since everyone does them now, and I am saving up the Spotlight/history episodes, which is a shame since I would probably have something to add to the discussion here on them, but only so many hours in a day.

This thread motivated me to go through the Uncle Sal episodes. It is noticeable that he's hardly swearing in his first appearance.....

I've got the Fantastic four part 2 spotlight to listen too, but it's been hard to listen to since Jamie passed. Everytime I start I just stop; it's like the intros on new episodes, I keep waiting on hearing "I'm Jamie D".

I've fallen woefully behind, due to my current job; it's left me with less time for listening to the several podcasts I try to listen to each week.
  • Been a regular listener since episode #111. Recently caught the Peter Rios interview over at Solitaire Rose Radio and was inspired to go back and listen to the early CGS shows (collector's mentality). I'm up to #19.

I listen to every episode usually within a week of them coming out. They're great for me to listen to at work.

I'm in a Time Bubble of sorts. I listen to the new ones upon release, usually within a few days. Although I've got queued and been catching up listening to some older movie reviews as I watch them on DVD. I binge listened a year or so ago and listened to everything that interested me.

Those are some of the ones I really should go back and listen to. I never got into the Uncle Sal episodes, so why not now?
