Westworld: New HBO Series

FYI:

HBO is set to produce a new series based on Michael Crichton's Westworld. It will star Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, & Rodrigo Santoro. JJ Abrams is producing. Here's the trailer to the 1973 film (written & directed by Crichton) starring Yul Brenner:

This 2-part Kamandi story, one of the best in the series, riffs on the Westworld concept:

The Simpsons did a take on Westworld when the clan visited Itchy & Scratchy Land. Here's the episode (in Spanish):

I had to reread that paragraph a few times to figure out how Michael Crichton was writing and directing the new Westworld show....
Oddly enough that misread could be a central plot point to a Michael Crichton novel.

I'm interested how the series will be structured.

How far into the season do things go wrong? (Go wrong... Go wrong... Go wrong... )

How long can the story play out once they do? (Go wrong... Go wrong... Go wrong... )

I know I watched Beyond Westworld, but I remember nothing about it other than it was a disappointment.

Impressive how the dust around the horses' hooves hangs in the air from 2 am until dawn.

The point is, I don't see how it could be a very long series unless they do the androids-leave-the-park-and-start-taking-over-the-world thing. Which has been done. That’s not to say this might end up being an interesting series, but was Westworld really screaming out to be remade?

    My reaction as well.

    I'll watch it, though.

I had never heard of Westworld before. After watching that old trailer I'm interested in watching this new show. Heck, I even want to check out the original film now. So, maybe it's not screaming out for a remake, but I think its an interesting concept that can be mined for a remake. So sure, why not do a remake.

Now, I do agree with you that it could be hard to stretch this out into a series without it becoming repetitive and possibly even boring. I would think that it should shoot for (no pun intended) a shorter 12 episode season than a full twenty some episodes.

Maybe this song could be it's theme! - Stephen Malkmus's "Jo Jo Jacket"

Na, more about Yul Brynner than Westworld.
