The Gibbons/Sook Kamandi in Wednesday Comics is something I'd buy the living heck out of.
Me, too.
I second it! I know Jaime D was a big fan of this run. I think Rick Remender would be an interesting writer for this book. But if we could get Gibbons and Sook it would be awesome.
I also really want a Paul Pope Strange Adventures with Adam Strange book, that was an other awesome series in Wednesday Comics that I would pay for!
Well, I did hear that he reaped a little more than he could sow of the pleasures the Mormons in Utah know. I also heard he could not restrain himself when he saw a nice caboose.
Back to the main topic...if I had my druthers, I'd like to see a split book: Kamandi for the first half by Joe Casey and Tom Scioli, and Tommy Tomorrow by Grant Morrison and Cameron Stewart as the back half.
DC’s All Access panel at ECCC yesterday saw Dan Didio announced their Kamandi Challenge, that will see 26 creators apparently randomly paired (though Jimmy and Amanada stayed together) to create their best Kamandi: The Last Boy On Earth stories.
No knowledge of what the winner will get. But here are the pairings… including a few names we expected to already see on Rebirth. And the areas of the Last World that have been split up for individual stories.
Dan Abnett and Dale Eaglesham Peter J. Tomasi and Neal Adams Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti James Tynion IV and Carlos D’Anda Bill Willingham and Ivan Reis Steve Orlando and Philip Tan Marguerite Bennett and Dan Jurgens Keith Giffen and Steve Rude Tom King and Kevin Eastman Greg Pak and Joe Prado Rob Williams and Walter Simonson Gail Simone and Ryan Sook (art below) Len Wein and José Luis García-López.
Nice to see they got Kevin Eastman in on it. Kamandi is his all-time favorite series. But really, they had me at Steve Rude (and Simonson, Sook, and Garcia-Lopez).
@nweathington Eastman and Rude really caught my eye too.
Let's be honest, Eastman isn't the greatest artist, but besides being a super-nice and generous guy, he has a love for Kamandi that is sure to be infectious in his story.
Ordinarily, I would be really excited about this. However, this being the modern DC, I think I will brace myself for mediocrity, at best.
I expect a mix of tone and quality amongst the stories. But I don't believe Steve Rude would draw a story that didn’t fit with his sensibilities, and he’s criticized DC’s recent output. I think he'll be putting his money where his mouth is at the very least.
