Did anyone pick up and read through the first issue on release day, 2/4? I'm curious to hear some initial thoughts.

First and foremost, I don't have enough experience with Grant Morrison to judge if this book is typical to his style. That being said, I started to wonder if I was having a stroke as I read through the first issue. Bizarre storylines intermingled with hauntingly complex imagery in a unearthly amalgam that made me question language itself.

Now here's the really crazy part: I kind of liked it. I'm finding it hard to explain how I could stumble through the issue, be completely confused, and yet be eager for the next installment. Yet, that's exactly the quandary I find myself in.

I will definitely reread the issue, as I'm hoping to pick up on things I may have missed. The beautiful artwork alone is worth another look. But I wanted to see if anyone else was willing to offer their primary reactions to the book. Are you blissfully perplexed too? :-)

Welcome to Grant Morrison fandom. I would reccomend reading Doom Patrol for further confusion and delight.

Morrison's storytelling is hard for some people to get in to, but I have learned with his mini-series to wait until all of the parts are out. He VERY carefully constructs things, so what may seem like a small detail can grow to something much larger by the end of the story. I would recommend The Invisibles to get the FULL Morrison effect.

@mwhitt80 and @SolitaireRose, thank you both for the recommendations of Doom Patrol and The Invisibles. I'm not sure that my brain can handle more than one Morrison project at a time, but I will definitely have to circle back on these titles sometime soon.

Did either of you read Nameless #1 yet? As experienced readers of Morrison, I would be interested to get your impressions.

Same. I'm buying it in trades, simply because I know it will work better that way.

I find Morrison hit and miss -- when he hits, he's effin' brilliant... but when he misses, he's effin' bewilderin'.

My favorite Morrison series are still his runs on New X-Men and JLA.
