I saw Neal Adams at the pre party for the Denver Comic Con. What a thrill it was to meet him.
I get to meet him at HeroesCon this Saturday. I'll probably babble idiotically.*
*I know. I know. Go ahead and say it.
That’s okay, so will Neal.
You did not just go there!
Oh, yes, I did! Just ask him about physics. I dare you!
I believe both the Hit Comics covers are actually Reed Crandall. And the Doll Man is definitely Al Bryant—he even signed it.
Rudy Nebres is a highly underrated artist. He’s my second-favorite of the ’70s wave of Filipino artists—right behind Alex Niño.
Thanks for the education!
Glad to help. It’s sometimes easy to confuse the Quality artists, especially given that Eisner often did layouts of the covers for others to finish. In fact, many of Fine’s best known covers were laid out by Eisner—particularly some for National Comics. Fine’s work tends to be more fluid or “rubbery” than most. He really exaggerated his figures, especially as his work progressed. He excelled at drawing dynamic poses. Crandall’s figures were more realistically proportioned and posed. He also tended to use heavier blacks than Fine. I find his work to sometimes be a little stiff, but it’s always exquisite. And I love the way he drew folds in clothing and shine on leather.
I was wondering the same thing, but afraid to ask...
You have to respect someone who was there and picked up a classic at the time it came out. It's a similar argument to the one going on in the Watchmen thread.
