May Solicitation Are Out! (March Previews 2016) | What Looks Good?

Comments

  • Afterlife with Archie and Sabrina are back from hiatus.

A new Beasts of Burden one-shot! Huzzah!

Mae, a creator-owned new series by Gene Ha might be worth checking out.

Future Quest by Jeff Parker and Doc Shaner? Sign me up!

I'll probably get the Adventures of Dieter Lumpen book. I've never read any of it, but Ruben Pellejero’s art is gorgeous. It's like a fusion of Toth, Bernet, and P. Craig Russell, with a little Moebius thrown in. I don't think he's quite on the same level as any of those four guys, but he's very good all the same.

    Plutona tpb.

Good call! The cover looks like it just says 'Dieter Lumpen' but this adventure series from the eighties and nineties saw some of the character’s stories published in Heavy Metal Magazine in the late 80s. This new book from IDW will publish the complete adventures in a single volumeat 270pgs.

Here's a sample for the uninitiated...

I also am interested in Future Quest as well as Mae. I never checked out Plutona.

This may be the month I ditch all DC (except Swamp Thing) and Marvel, and stick with Valiant and Image books only. Hmmm... Decisions to make.

After listening to the latest episode, anyone make some decisions about their orders? Any additions or subtractions?

    Listen here.

    The Order As It Stands

    The Manga Mayhem
Silent Voice GN Vol 07 - still one of the best books I'm reading right now.
Nisekoi False Love GN Vol 15
    Nichijou GN Vol 02
Masamune Kuns Revenge GN Vol 01 - May get dropped but it's got an interesting plot device (fat guy loses weight and seeks revenge on cute girl who tormented him)
I Am Space Dandy GN (One Shot)

    The Hernia Buster
Vampirella Archives HC Vol 14 - A couple more of these and we should be done with the Warren run...whew!

The Helping Out Because They're Cool
The Uniques GN Vol 01- Support Comfort and Adam! Their stuff is great!

    The Day In Court
Scooby Doo Team Up #16 - Normally don't buy these but the Marvel Family is in it.
    Scooby Apocalypse #1
    Future Quest #1
    Astria #1 (of 5) (MR)
Arhian Head Mistress #1 (of 5) (MR)

    The Usual Gang
    Saga TP Vol 06 (MR)
Ms Marvel TP Vol 05 Super Famous
Legends 30Th Anniversary Edition TP - Just need a Zero Hour trade and I think I have all the "event" books from the 80s and 90s. :)

I didn't notice that Space Dandy was a one and done. I'd been willing to ignore it as a long-term series, but a one-time commitment is much harder to resist. While I don't think Space Dandy is in the same class as Cowboy Bebop, I like it much more than Samurai Champloo.

Proceed with caution - I've had more than a few manga listed as one-shots end up being 5 or more tankobon.

I'm still in because it looks like fun, though.

Champloo was an interesting use of hiphop and anime. I thought it worked well enough. It was never going to be as good/interesting as Cowboy Bebop and the use of Blues/jazz.

I just think it is neat the way Wantanbe's cartoons embody the music he is using for the series.

I sound like a giant nerd.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll wait till I can look through it at the shop. I won't mind if it ends up being a series as long as each volume is a complete story and I can easily drop it at any time.

I've decided to wait on the Future Quest tpb if the reviews are as good as I anticipate. Very tempted to go with floppies, but, for me, that creative team deserves to be on my shelf and not in a long box.

    Marvel
    Spidey All-New Marvel Treasury Edition
Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu Omnibus HC Vol 02
Doctor Strange Omnibus HC Vol 01

Ongoing titles I'm keeping up with
    Johnny Red #7 (of 8)
Irwin Allen Lost In Space #3 (photo cover)
    Future Proof #11
Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises #2

    Trying some new stuff
    America #1
    Aftershock Genesis #1

It's a heavy month, even though there are only 6 monthly (one bi-monhtly) titles on my order so far and I've decided to drop monthly titles from DC and Marvel altogether - those omnibuses are the bulk of my order this month.

It may be bogus or change later but I saw a listing in my Amazon recommendations for Mark Waid Flash vol one coming out in September.
