The Sixth Gun

So the final issue, a triple-sized issue #50, came out this week. I won't get it until my monthly DCBS order comes in a few weeks, but I've been following this from the start. I've read thru #47 and have started back up re-reading from the beginning to work my way up to the end.

For those who don't know this is written by Cullen Bunn with art by Brian Hurtt- Bill Crabtree is the colorist. It is a weird Western/fantasy tale and the world, mythologies, and characters built in it are extremely rich. Really great work IMO.

Anyone else a fan? I think it's been an outstanding book, one of the best out there in the past several years, all the way through. 50 issues of a creator-owned book is quite an achievement, and as @wildpigcomics had mentioned, it's great when creators get to finish something the way they want, which is the case here.

My only request- please clearly label any spoilers for ish 48-50, if you are caught up. May have to bow out of any discussion that pops up here until I read the end. FWIW I'll probably get up through #49 in the near future.

I started reading the trades about halfway through the series.

It's such a good comic. Cullen Bunn does awesome job at world building.

I also read it in trades, and I'm two books behind. I think the first volume is by far the best of what I've read so far, but the rest has been quite good too.

I think I like Harrow County even better.

I'm a few issues behind on Harrow County, but I also like it quite a bit as well.

In my rereading, I just got through The Sixth Gun #21, which, like the oft-discussed G.I. Joe #21, is silent. I've never been a G.I. Joe fan and have never read that famous issue (fire away, peanut gallery), but when Bunn & Hurtt do the silent issue thing with The Sixth Gun #21, the results are pretty outstanding.

If you read the trades, where there aren't issue numbers, you might not have known it, but the silent issue is indeed #21. So, a little meta nod to history in the series as well.
