A few standouts and trades I'll be getting or at least will think about getting.

Josie and the Pussycats #1 — I’m not as excited about this one as I was Archie or Jughead, but the art looks nice.
    Adventure Time vol. 10 TP
Doom Patrol #1 — I liked Umbrella Academy well enough, so I'll give this a shot.
    Gotham Academy: Second Semester #1
Everafter: From the Pages of Fables #1 — Not a big fan of Sturges’ writing, and not sure I need Fables work not written by Willingham, but I might try the first issue.
The Art of Atari HC — Not sure if I'll pull the trigger on this one, but the Atari box art was really cool—much better than the games themselves, unfortunately.
East of West vol. 6 TP

    For Sure:

Flash by Geoff Johns vol 3
    Man of Steel vol 9
Supergirl by Peter David vol 1
The Firefly tv show coloring book

    Maybes:

    Batman Elseworlds vol 2
    Absolute Infinite Crisis hardcover.
There is almost always some book or toy that gets added right when I place my order.

    The No's:

No Marvel, Image, or IDW this month.

After my next DCBS shipment and this order is placed, I will have less pending stuff on order than I have had since the end of 2012. It will continue to shrink for at least the next month or two.

Just not a lot of new stuff that I am interested in.

    BOOM! Studios
Skybourne #1 (all-new Frank Cho series)
    Klaus HC

    Aardvark-Vanaheim

    Dark Horse
    Ranx HC

Again, nothing from Marvel or Image...

...but this pair of Frank Thorne's Red Sonja emblazoned pint glasses from Dynamite are tempting...

Jack Kirby: Pencils & Inks Oversized pencil & ink copraisons of The Demon #1, Kamandi #1 and Omac #1

I'll be interested to see how much—if any—touchup work they do to the pencils. Some of those photocopies were pretty rough when I scanned them 15 years ago. I know they’ve been rescanned at a higher res than what I scanned them at—storage space was an issue back in the early 2000s—but they’re practically impossible to restore completely.

Can you define "pretty rough" please? Did you scan the pencil pages or the inked pages or both? And would you have a problem with any level of touch-up work to the photocopies?

Most of the photocopies Jack made were printed on thermal paper, which does not age well. The ink fades over time, sometimes unevenly. They also can become rather blotchy—almost like static on a TV screen in places, usually along the edge of a page but sometimes much more than that—and it can obscure the linework. I don’t remember how bad off those particular issues were, but odds are some of the pages don’t look very clean.

I never scanned original pages of the Kirby art, but for a few books we’d have photocopies of the pencils and the inks, and for those I would also scan the inks. And sometimes for the older Marvel stuff, we'd have photostats of the inks the office sent to Kirby for reference. Those were on a much nicer paper, and were always very clean, but they were almost always printed smaller than actual print size.

We do some touch-up work for the Kirby Collector—mainly adjusting levels in Photoshop to make the faded pages darker and look more like pencil marks, not so much cleaning up the blotches. With some of those blotches, it’s almost impossible to discern the line art from the blotches, so clean-up becomes guess work. In those cases, I think it’s best just to leave it as is, lest you erase something you shouldn’t.

I wonder if IDW is going to be using the original pages for the three comics they're showcasing or if they've gotten photocopies or a combination of both? They may even have only gotten high-rez scans to work with. I'm curious about the process.

The only two definite pickups are Peter David's Supergirl TP Vol. 1 and the third Elfquest Omnibus (Dark Horse).

    I really need a cheap month! :)

I’d be very surprised if they didn’t track down all the original art.

Yup, me too. It's sad when East of West trades come out more often than his other "monthly" books.

If they are comparing pencils and inks, it'll be from Kirby's original photocopies of his pencils and then the original art that was inked. It will be very interesting, however, not as cool as the pre-DC work would be, since Kirby told Royer not to add or remove anything, since he was aware that Colletta would erase things he didn't want to draw/

Seeing the pencils for his work before Sinnott inked his work is incredibly enlightening.

I concur. My preference would be to see this done with some key Fantastic Four books.

The problem is that Kirby didn’t get a Xerox photocopier until the early ’70s. Marvel got an in-house photostat machine around 1966, ’67, but I don’t know if it was just before or just after the Galactus saga. Regardless, from what I understand it was a relatively difficult and time-consuming process to use, so they didn’t often make photostats of pencil pages.

The order as it stands right now:

    DC Goodness
    Wonder Woman 77 Special #4
Supergirl TP Book 01 (Res) - Woohoo! The Peter David run! Take it all the way through, DC!
    Supergirl #1 Blank Var Ed
    Supergirl #1 *Special Discount*

    Manga Goodness
    Space Dandy GN Vol 02
Nisekoi False Love GN Vol 17
    Nichijou GN Vol 04

    Master Keaton GN Vol 08
Land Rising Dead Tokyo School Girl Surviving Zombie (MR) - If I'm reading this right it functions as a technical manual for a schoolgirl to get out of a zombie apocalypse. I might need this down the road. I dunno. :)

    Elven Goodness
Complete Elfquest TP Vol 03 (Res)

    Day in Court Goodness
Alters #1 (MR) - I like the concept, and I've enjoyed a number of titles from Aftershock.

A Squirrel Girl choose-your-own-adventure comic? How can you pass that up?

Also, if you haven’t tried Harrow County, this is a cheap way to do so.

Agreed, on both counts. And at that price, buy several and give out to trick or treaters!

I've finally gotten a chance to start looking over the dcbs spreadsheet.

    Darkhorse
    Elf Quest volume 3
I think I'm going to read Kingsway West digitally.

    DC
Nope I forgot I'm getting the Hannah Barbera comics bundle from dcbs.

    Marvel
I get 2 of my 3 books from Marvel digitally. Powerman & Ironfist
    Black Panther
    Total Awesome Hulk (floppy)

I recently dropped Daredevil. I have ordered DD every month since Ed Brubaker started writing; I've gone back and found every issue since the Kevin Smith relaunch. I'm not sure why now, but I'm done.

    IDW
    Nothing

    Image
Here is a plug I always give, try Wayward I like reading it digitally (the back matter is great) but the trades are being solicited again. Also if you sword and sorcerery try Skullkickers; both are great books.

    Hawaiian Dick vol 4

    Other
    Cerebus in Hell #0
KoDT #235 the March to #250 continues.
    Space Dandy vol 2
