I thought a thread for this already existed, but my searches came up empty, so apologies if I've needlessly created a new thread topic.
CBS/Paramount unveiled a preliminary peek of its new Star Trek flagship, the U.S.S. Discovery.

The only thing that has me stumped is the registry. With the low number it would have to be that the Discover is a refit of an older ship that has been in service Captain Aprils or Pikes time, just like the Enterprise in ST TMP.
That's still set the show about 50 years before The Treaty of Algeron so a Federation ship could have been a Sultan cloaking devise, but that's a bit of a stretch.
It's cool that they are setting the new show in April/Pikes time period

You might like this ship - featured in the VR game I'm working on...
It's called the Aegis, and it's spectacular.

I hope that someone tries to explain away why the female uniforms became skimpier 10 years later with Kirk. Maybe say that the uniform of the day was a Captain's prerogative on a ship and some Captains liked the short skirt. Everybody in deference to Kirk had their females wear the uniform when he arrived at Starbases.
If this is 10 years prior to TOS, Then the TOS crew exist and most of them are somewhere in Starfleet as younger officers. How soon until the temptation to bring in a young Kirk or Spock to grab ratings wins out?
To me this looks like they copied the current movie look and feel of Star Trek and just ignored what came before even though that is the continuity this is supposed to exist in.

Most fans that came aboard with NGEN are only in their late 30's to mid 40's with hopefully decades left of spending money on Star Trek. We love continuity. If we do not like Discovery, then all you are left with is the hope that millennials are willing to pay for a streaming service of a network they already do not watch.
The whole thing kind of looks... generic and boring. Like it’s trying to retell material we’ve already seen before instead of boldly going forward, seeking out new plots and complications. Is this the Kelvin universe? Looks more like Babylon 5. The Klingons look awful. And, even though my species was not biologically determined for the singular purpose of sensing the coming of death, I still sense it coming for Star Trek Discovery.
The show was great.
The industry is changing though and old Star Trek fans do not understand technology and did not pay for All Access. There was too much competition from other streaming services which caused younger new fans to miss this.
For my tastes, the look of the show is too close to Enterprise... Darkly lit sets, blue naval uniforms, lots of steel beams, etc. Being close to Enterprise is not really a good thing.
When I saw the Orville set, I felt like I was home.
