A little backstory on the image: The “Don” the pencils were signed to was none other than Don Heck. Kirby drew a couple of pieces, this being one, for Heck as a thank-you gift after Heck inked some of Kirby’s drawings for his “Gods” posters.
The color image above was done for (and is a direct scan of) the back cover of The Jack Kirby Collector #48 in 2007. Tom Scioli penciled the background and incidental figures at the bottom, and inked the piece. Tom Ziuko provided the colors, trying to use a typical Kirby palatte.
I call this his “Jack” style—Jack Davis filtered through Jack Kirby. Or is it Jack Kirby filtered through Jack Davis? There’s more to it than that, obviously, but this is when he lets the Jacks’ influence shine through the brightest.
I don’t remember getting the Elektra poster, and I’m not sure why. Maybe I did get it and I'm just forgetting. I still have them all, so I should go through my poster tubes and see if it's there.
Well, I thought this was lost LONG ago. (e.g., tossed by my parents, like my Marvel slurpee cups...ha)
Digging through some boxes at my Mom's place, I discovered the first sketch I ever bought -- a Bob Layton Iron Man. The flyer is undated, but it would have been likely something like '84 or '85. IIRC, it was during college and I went to my buddy's LCS, which wasn't very close to where I lived (or where we were in college). If I could go back in time, I'd have gone back for Perez signing that was happening on another day!
I had been out of comics since early high school, and this road trip was part of the process of being drawn back in.
