The 2017 Reading Thread - THE ULTIMATE EDITION - November

Good lord, guys, I'm so far behind with this it isn't even funny. I'm gonna leave 2018 open to anyone who wants to take this ball and run with it. It's fun, but I'm just blowing it on staying punctual with it.

Rules are simple: Log everything you've read this year. Just edit your existing post or you (and we) will get confused trying to keep up. Bold the stuff you really dig. At the end of each month I'll start a new thread and you can pick a "winner" from your favorite books. You can focus on just trades (which is usually what I do), or just write about the good stuff you've read.

As my late post for the Oct thread shows, I may not be able to stay on time but I am willing to try to run with the ball for this thread in 2018.

I read your Facebook post about how this was fantastic sci-fi, which volume are you reading? I think I might try it on the nook.

I started with volume one and I'm working my way through all 12. Here's the thing, and make no mistake: This was written for folks in touch with their feminine side. The art style is the standard by which most shoujo (girls) manga is measured. The characters deal with a lot of that lovey-dovey relationship stuff. That alone might be enough to understandably put some readers off. It's exactly what you think it's going to be...

...and then people die. Then there's time-flux conundrums. World plagues as a weapon. Schools as fronts for soul-swallowing demons. A bus that takes you to Hell. People start getting the crap knocked out of them in battle. Some of the good guys are pricks. Some of the plotlines are really similar to the old school sci-fi/fantasy I read back when I was a gangly teen.

You can still make fun of me...I'm used to it. :D You'll know by vol. 1 if this is going to be your cup of tea or not. I'll read anything. :)

I'm passing the reins next year to someone else to oversee this. Obviously the responsibilities are too much for me to handle. :D
