DuVernay has shown she is good with story. Go watch This Is the Life—a great documentary.
I haven't seen A Wrinkle in Time, so I can’t speak to the film, but it was a book I loved as a kid. I reread it a few years ago, and I could barely get through it. It made me question why I enjoyed it as a kid, and I think it was only because of a couple of the characters and the overall concept and themes of the book. It's why I really have no interest in seeing the film. The New Gods comics, on the other hand, I gain a greater appreciation for every time I read them.
The big question is what direction they choose to go in the script. What will they keep, what will they throw out, and what will they change? Will this be written as a one-and-done, or as a set-up for sequels? That’s where the movie will be won or (more likely) lost.

Admittedly, I'm biased.
