The 2019 Reading Thread — The Here’s to a Better Year Edition — January

Another year, another Reading Thread. Have at it.

The Rules
Log everything you've read this year. Just edit your existing post or you (and we) will get confused trying to keep up. At the end of each month, I'll start a new thread and you can pick a "winner" from your favorite books. You can focus on just trades, or just write about the good stuff you've read.

For some reason I'm unable to edit my existing post so I'm continuing my list here:

Valerian Vol. 7 (Cinebook) - the last in the series and a great ending to a long-lived series.

That's strange. I know earlier this morning I got a 503 error that prevented me from connecting to the forum entirely. I wonder if there is a connection there (some small glitches before a big one... to use all the technical terms.) If you have a chance later, could you try editing your earlier post again and see if it works that time? Thanks.

Seems to be working now! Might have been a server issue or something.

In any event I did not read a book called "Testing An Edit for David D." although it'd be a cracking good read if it existed. :)

I started reading the Earth X Omnibus, it made me think of the question. I wonder what jack Kirby was planning for the Black Pyramid in the last issue of Eternals volume 1?

Maybe as a weapon Ikaris could use against the Celestials when they returned to Earth en masse.

It has been so long since I've read earth X. I've forgotten how tedious it can be to read. The jumping around, and narration of x51 and uatu. It's a good book, but it takes concentration to get through

Yeah, it's a bit dense, and not always in a good way. It started out pretty strong but kind of got bogged down as it went along. A good story that could have been much better, I think.

That is exactly how I feel. It's not a book I would give to anyone as a starting comic.

There are parts that are brilliant, and there are parts that slow down the story to almost a halt. But it's not a failure by any stretch. And the art is really good.

When was this created in relation to kingdom come?

The initial idea for Earth X came about during the production of Kingdom Come. It actually came from Wizard asking Alex to create a possible future for the Marvel Universe. A special was co-published (Wizard and Marvel) in 1997, right in the middle of Kingdom Come, which basically outlined the world and the state of certain Marvel characters. They didn’t start working on the full series until about a year later. Ross did the Uncle Sam miniseries in between.

I'm pretty sure that after I finish earth X I'm going to put the Omnibus away for a bit and pull another book from the shelf before starting universe x.
Maybe I will read the annihilation Omnibus. I've not read it since the floppies. My goal for 2019 is to finish 6 Omnibus; I would love to read both annihilation books and the war of Kings books (love the annihilation stories never read WoK)
