The 2020 Reading Thread — The "Don’t July to Me" Edition

Nearing the halfway point of the year, and I am running out of clever things to say. Think I'll go read some comics instead.

The Rules
Log everything you've read this year. Just edit your existing post or you (and we) will get confused trying to keep up. At the end of each month, I'll start a new thread and you can pick a "winner" from your favorite books. You can focus on just trades, or just write about the good stuff you've read.

What worked for you with this one? It did nothing for me.

I thought it was a fun concept, loved the art, and you can’t beat a book that size for regular price these days.

I enjoy the old pulp stuff, so the “Doc Savage for modern times" concept is something I'm on board with just from the solicitation. And Dodson is the best Adam Hughes not named Adam Hughes out there, so I knew the artwork would be lovely, and it was. I've read the first two issues now, and overall I give it B+. I think the storytelling in the first issue was a little off in the first issue. Despite its enormous page count, it felt like it was trying to cram just a little too much info in at once, and the layouts weren't always as clear as they should have been. I like an upbeat pace in an adventure comic (pun intended), but there were a couple of scenes that needed more room to breathe. The second issue was much better though, so I'm going to stick with it.
