Walking Dead in Playboy......did anyone else buy this? (Possible spoilers)

So I bought the new issue of Playboy for $6.99 just to read the Walking Dead mini (my 13 year old self is shaking his head). It felt a little rushed and written just to satisfy someone other then the people who read comic. After reading I found myself not really caring about what I just read. Who else read it and what were your thoughts?

I didn't buy it but I did read it at a Barnes and Noble. I thought it was okay. I liked how we saw an evolution of the character it was about and it gave her introduction in the comic series more dimension and meaning. I am curious as to why this was in Playboy of all things. Still, I thought it was interesting enough.

I wonder if Playboy offered Kirkman a nice chunk of change for the origin? Why else, right? Why not a digital incentive or a back up in issue 100. This may keep me up the next couple of nights!

It was kind of a lame story. Didn't really add anything to Michonne's character. Very diassapointing.

I kind of liked it. It gives her a progression into the character we see when she's first introduced. I was always curious as to where she got her sword from and it gives the two zombies she is seen with when she is first introduced more dimension and meaning. I liked it a lot.

The Walking Dead comic sells what, 30,000 units? The television show it spawned broke a ratings record for basic cable ratings last week, topping over 9 million viewers.* There are a ton of potential readers who watch the show...but still haven't tried the comic/trade paperbacks.

As to the silly question of "Who reads Playboy anymore?" In 2011, Playboy's circulation was 1,516,086**. That's over 50 times more readers than The Walking Dead comic. Those number dwarf the sales of any comic for nearly 20 years. And it's not like the TV show, where someone who enjoys it could possibly go to their bookstore, or log onto amazon.com—no, it's ONE AND A HALF MILLION sets of eyeballs that will see the a version of the actual comic.

A promotional comic appearing in a magazine with a million and a half readers teasing the origin of a significant character that will debut on a TV show that tops over over 9 million viewers...talk about tapping into the zeitgeist to promote a comic! Seriously, what's not to like?

i live in utah where they don't sell adult magazines so I had to find a copy of the story online.

@steve_bryant, Wow. I am amazed Playboy's circulation is still that high*. I wasn't seeing the episode as promoting the comic, but as pulling TV viewers to Playboy. Thanks for the perspective.

Bear in mind, the current numbers are way down (just like all magazines). According to Wikipedia, the highest-selling issue sold over seven million units. So even if the circulation is down by over 75%, it's still pretty darn good when compared to the meager numbers that comics sell. :)
