Okay, last year I did this and had some fun with it. Most of us don't get to be part of the enlightened few who can score tickets to Comi-Con as well as a hotel for the week. Most of us have to sit our asses home and lie to ourselves and say we do it "by choice" (which we all know is BS! :) ).
So once again, I am opening up the 2012 ANTI-CON - for those of us who didn't get to go!
Here's how it works:
1) Go buy a comic somewhere. For you. This is pretty simple. I just dropped a load at my LCS to pick up a bunch of trades. The trick is? Try and buy them on a discount of some sort. I got my batch of trades for 50% off. You can do this online, offline, whatever, but the point is to try and emulate that wonderful vendor you always seek out who sells his books cheap.
2) Eat bad food. Not hard for many of us. I'm having a hotdog tonight. :)
3) THE IMPORTANT PART: Get a sketch from a comic artist (or in this case, me!) I'm opening up eight (well, seven) slots on my commission list solely for people who didn't get to go to SDCC this year. Give me a subject* and I'll sketch it out. Once I have all eight, a panel comprised of my wife and my dog vote on the best one. That person gets their sketch, plus a bunch of old comics I don't want anymore.
4) The Library Boy Factor: During our Secret Santa Gift Exchange this year, LibraryBoy got the shaft - his santa didn't come though. He was left high and dry. So he has one of the eight slots reserved for him and he gets his sketch, regardless of voting. It's my Con. I make the rules. :)
* I'm undergoing a project where I draw a member of the Legion of Superheroes each day. If you can pick a Legionnaire, you'll make me very happy (but you don't have to) because I can tie it into that. If you do go that route, I've already done Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lighting Lad, Comet Queen, and Bouncing Boy.
First seven slots under this post - one character per person - I'm trusting you not to cheat if you're actually going to SDCC - now GO!!!

I ordered that collected edition of Marvel's run of John Carter from the site that shall not be named this morning.
Okay, I'm on big kick for both Supergirl and the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl lately, so either of those would be fine (hey, Supergirl would satisfy your LSH needs, too, come to think of it!). And whichever version of either you like. They've both had enough costumes/incarnations across media that you have a lot to work with. Go where your muse takes you, my friend.
As for steps one and two, my trade credit order from MyComicShop.com came today, and I got lots of great books for cheapish (and, since it was in trade, basically free), including this little beauty that I've had my eye on for years:
It's goofy Archie at its goofy Archie-est, it's a 60s celebrity appearance... it's my brand of 4 color nirvana.
And I ate poorly all weekend and laid awake clutching my stomach and cursing the gods of every religion as a result. Does that count? :-&
I fully expect to be ignored, but love sdcc, this board, and the legion.
And have fun at the SDCC!
Other than your "eat bad" thingy I love your concept.
Fate invariably conspires to only allow me to attend a con on odd numbered years, and then only my local Chicago shows. I got my cheap trades coming courtesy of Dubbat138 and as for a sketch....
how about...
Roy Harper vs Arm Fall Off Boy?
BWAHAHAHAH! *wipes eyes* I kill me!
Sorry! Too many characters! That was just for my own amusement.
How about Booter Gold swiping his Legion Flight Ring?
and deadly.
Pick a Legionnaire, or sketch subject, anyhow!
1.) Lately I've been on a shopping spree....and now I've got not just a pile - but rather the Alps of unread books. Lots has been from sales (mainly Amazon and/or comiXology)
2.) Lots of broccoli.... I actually have friends who call that "bad" food....
3.) If I could pick a commision based on the Legion of Superheroes it would be COSMIC BOY. I've spent so many hours in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) that I kind of grew fond of magnetism. Now if I could just manipulate that....
definitely was, but i'm not very familiar with DC and the Legion of Superheroes so I got shy on my request
So I have:
1) Drunk Cap (not getting into Comi_Con)
2) Supergirl
3) Dawnstar
4) Booster Gold
5) Taskmaster
6) Cosmic Boy - I've already drawn him in his regular outfit. So you get the Mike Grell "Corset Boy" version...bwah ha ha ha!!!
Two slots left!
(Bouncing Boy is my favorite member of the LoSH!)
I do plan to post my progress (or lack thereof) every seven days or so.
You can also follow Studio Fugazi on facebook (or me, Al Sparrow) for daily updates.
So that's Bob Oksner drawing hotpants Supergirl :x , fishnets Zatanna :x , and a Yeti. Great comic book cover or GREATEST comic book cover?
If so, Brainiac 5.
#1 may be tricky, as I'm working all weekend, but #2 is a cinch... WAFFLE HOUSE!
Counting more than comics, because I frankly buy very few comics at shows/cons, first up is I picked up the Diamond Select Avengers Hulk from Amazon.
For the longest time, they were out of stock, and I couldn't bring myself to pay the excess prices/shipping with anywhere else. Now, not only do they seem to be back in stock, but, at the moment, they are on sale - $18.97, down from $21.99, and if you can throw in another $6.03, you get the glory of free shipping. So, I also picked up a DCUC Sinestro that I've been wanting, anyway.
I also did a perusing of DCBS, and, like at many cons, I passed things by that I didn't really need. (Easy this month, with a Batman B&W statue that has already been issued before!)
Bad food is a problem at the moment, as I'm suffering from a delightful intestinal infection, but, score, I usually get sick from going to cons, so it is just like I'm there!
I may go see a movie tomorrow, to try to beat the heat, which is something I try to work into an evening during a con. I believe there may even be a superhero film out there this weekend. Maybe I'll stand in a line for a couple of hours before the movie and pretend I'm trying to get into Hall H!
One more to go...
