According to the most recent ECBT2000AD podcast FLJ will be seeing it next Friday after the rehearsal for his son's wedding which takes place the next day.
I'm not sure he will be posting much around then so I have taken the liberty of using my Psychic powers to predict his review:
Yep. Me and the kid are high tailing it out of the dinner to catch the movie. Trying not to get too excited...even though it's gotten rave reviews. I think it's 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and those reviewers are a tough bunch.
Dredd 3d - AWESOME. They got it right. Urban is Dredd. Dredd is Urban. Ultraviolent. Balls to the wall action movie with some real dark humor. What's weird is...I saw dredd on the screen and not an actor portraying him. Mission accomplished. The 'R' rating means that the box office will be small. But it might be enough to warant a sequel. The 3d in the movie was very subtle and the filmakers made sure it helped the storytelling rather than get in the way. Brilliant script. 'A' list acting.
Well, this is disappointing. Even with all the good reviews, it seems the audience isn't willing to give it a chance. The movie only made $2.2M domestic yesterday and is looking at a $5.7M domestic opening.
I'm interested to see how it performs overseas and if they're more receptive.
I'm a bit subdued in my response...got a speech to rehearse for my sons wedding. This movie is everything a Dredd fan would want as an introduction to Dredd and how violent and nasty his world is. Brilliant, brilliant movie. 5 out of 5. I'm going to see it as many times as I can before it's out of the theaters. It finally puts the nail into the coffin of the Stallone crap.
I just hope it makes enough that we get the sequel or even the trilogy Garland wants to do. Personally I think word of mouth will have it doing pretty well on DVD etc.
With the 'R' rating, they knew it wasn't going to be a blockbuster. I can see it make a good bit internationally and have huge dvd/download sales that it migght get a sequel...if not...I'm a happy man knowing that they did a perfect Dredd movie.

I wanted to go see it. But the theater near me didn't get it. Checked and the nearest theater to me that is showing it is about an hour away. Might try to go see it this upcoming week.
I predicted Flintlockjaw's response correctly then. Just been to see it for the second time today. Even better. Started to notice more of the Easter eggs on the block names and the Judges screens. Great action film, great Dredd
The early estimates have Dredd being pushed out of the top 5.
End of Watch - $13M House at the End of The Street - $13M Trouble with the Curve - $12.7M Finding Nemo (3D) - $9.4M Resident Evil: Retribution - $6.7M Dredd - $6.3M

a fun and violent piece of exploitation cinema!
Now I really do want to see it. Dredd just HAS to be exploitation cinema. B-)

Looks like Dredd is clearing out Ballymun flats in the 80's!
