One of my favorite comic book characters is Marvel's
Monark Starstalker. I'm not really sure why to be honest. Heck, I don't even care for Howard Chaykin's art. Something about the character just always seemed really cool to me.
Always loved his weapons:
His vortex pistol causes instantaneous blindness, vertigo, and nausea. He uses a sword formed by a nanoassembly of supra-sharp microbots able to slice though virtually anything.
I was pretty darn happy when he popped back up in the most recent Nova series. (I guess he was in a recent Wolverine book too but I never read that).
So, do you have a favorite
obscure comic character?
(Oh, and if you don't know about it, the
"The Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe" is a great site for finding obscure Marvel characters.)

This was an amorphous, green vapor that flittered in and out of people's lives, possessing people or inanimate objects and granting them power or insight to some crucial issue in their lives... and then vanish, without giving reason or explanation for its motives. It made a number of appearances in various stories in DC's Tales Of The Unexpected during the 60's, but was never given any comprehensive origin until it made one final appearance in, of all places...
...The Angel And The Ape, a 90's mini-series by Phil Foglio, where it was revealed that the Glob was an invention of the Guardians of the Universe.
Somehow, ninjas managed to re-proliferate since the 1970s.
Killjoy stories are weird, melding Ditko's Ayn Rand Fan Club views with the sort of comedic sensibility that would have been at home in the early comic book issues of Mad. It's like Ditko with a Harvey Kurtzman filter.
I remember reading his first appearance in Quasar #17 and being blown away. Just another example of why that book was so good.
Loved this cosmic version of MIDNIGHT SUN from the late 80s Silver Surfer series. Fingers crossed that he will resurface someday. I was hoping that he would show up in the recent Guardians of the Galaxy series, but it never happened.

What's next? Formerly lame Captain America ally Jack Flagg joining the friggin' Guardians of the Galaxy?
Moonshadow's buddy, Ira.
Im sure there must be a more obscure one though, will have a think!
I also have deep love for Bueno Excellente.
Herbie the Fat Fury
He was pretty much started by Steve Englehart because he wanted to tell Batman stories at Marvel. Then, he went to DC and wrote Batman stories while Marvel did a LOT of work to make him no longer a Batman knockoff.
I also liked the Nathaniel Dusk mini series by Gene Colan. If memory serves me correctly, neither of the two series were inked.... just Colan's pencils straight.
