Does 4 billion seem a little low to anyone else?

Yes, but in this economy maybe not.

Well, its 50% stock. If that stock increases it is well more than 4bil. It could be less but Disney is so well run that isn't really on the table. It looks like Disney plans to repurchase the shares within 2 years of the initial dilution so I am guessing it will be a total sales price of 4.5-5bil.

I think this is great news. I would suspect Thrawn. Hasn't Lucas said that was always the plan for 7-9?

If ILM is part of the deal, then 4 billion is very cheap.

It is parts of the deal, along with lucas animation, skywalker sound and lucas arts
(based on what I've read online)
ILm and skywalker sound are all a part, and Indiana Jones too, but according to CNN the ONLY thing they considered in the value was Star Wars. BTW, why does ILM make it a "cheap" deal. Its FOUR BILLION DOLLARS. ILM isnt as irreplaceable as they use to be.

Also, why does everyone on twitter amd facebook keep saying "maybe now we will get the original trilogy back the way it was". What does Disney care about that for?

I think that's a good move, I think he's been used well in that way for the Clone Wars.

Well, always is a weird word since Thrawn was created by Timothy Zahn.

How long until Joss Whedon is linked???

    THIS

    MUST

    HAPPEN!
I'm sure he'd do a great job. He'd have to choose between Star Wars and Avengers though. Couldnt see him doing both. I haven't a clue what I'd choose????
    He doesn't need to direct.

    Just write the scripts.

I feel very strongly it will NOT be Thrawn and that many lovers of the EU will be dissapointed.

Agreed. I can't see what real benefit there is to them of using EU characters.

Considering this a bit more, why did he need to sell the company? Isn't Lucasfilm profitable enough to stay independent? Couldn't Lucas have just handed over the reigns to someone he trusted without being gobbled up by a behemoth like Disney?

  • I see Jerry Bruckheimer producing, and the next movie focusing on Han Solo's drunk cousin, Captain Jack Solo, played by Johnny Depp with eyeliner and a bird on his head. ;)

But seriously, I think it's a great fit. Really looking forward to more than just the three Star Wars movies we've gotten.

Interesting that this should coincide with Mr Lucas' recently announced retirement. I'd be intrigued with the idea of a Star Wars Ep1 remake.

Ideas for new casting off the top of my head:

    Luke Skywalker-Zac Efron
    Han Solo-Taylor Kitsch
    Princess Leia- Ellen Page
    Obi Wan Kenobi-Sean Bean
Darth Vader- Bendidict Cumberbatch (He could wear the suit AND do the voice!)
Chewbacca-Peter Mayhew still? Or maby a motion capture Chewie played by Andy Serkis
C-3PO- Anthony Daniels still. It'd make a nice tie-in with the classic movie.
Artoo- They should be able to build a real one by now!

I believe this very thing was predicted by that attorney guy who is on the show sometimes. I think he made the prediction in the episode about the Disney/Marvel acquisition.
  • I don't think we'll see very many returning human characters... it would just be weird given how old they are (imo). However we could get Chewy, C3, R2. But then again it also depends on how far in the future this takes place. They could just have the main three recast by older actors and have their kids be the main characters. Or it could be so far in the future we can only get C3 and R2. However, they seem to like the skywalker family so it's probably the former.

Yes thank you. Im very aware of their record. However many of those movies used multiple effects companies, thats the norm now. One company can't handle the hige workload of the big big movies anymore. Also, there are many many effects houses doing great work on other movies

The news is saying the main driver of the price was how they valued Star Wars. Thats the creative property. ILM might have talented people working for them, but they arent going to move books, games, cartoons, movies, comics, theme parks. ILM has done a lot of work, that doesnt make them irreplaceable. The star wars characters are irreplaceable. When Disney bought Marvel I'm positive their only concern was how many toys, games, cartoons and moviess they could make. Not the 60 years worth of artists because that means nothing.

Should George Lucas be kept in the director's chair? I hope not! So, let he speculating begin:

If you were Disney who would you want to helm the next film:

    Chris Nolan
    Kevin Smith
    Bryan Singer
    Peter Jackson
    Steven Spielberg
    Quentin Tarrentino
    Sam Mendes
    Woody Allen

Maybe they will go the 007 route and go for someone with a lower profile.

    Here's a name, Brad Bird.

  • I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. Maybe I missed it, but was there any reason given as to why Lucas would sell at all, let alone to Disney? It's not as though he needed the money.
