The 2015 Pull List: Additions, Subtractions and Special Orders!

Ok, so not to take away from other threads and their purpose, but I sort of see this idea as a amalgam of a few different threads we have going.

The idea is posting our pull list. Then updating with new posts as we go. Both when we add things and subtract things. Why? Because of a few reasons. As a podcaster (and as a general comic fan) there are always people asking "What are you reading now?" Well, sometimes I forget a title or two. Sometimes I go based on habit, forgetting I actually dropped a title several issues ago, etc. Another reason is that, by telling people when you're adding titles or subtracting titles we might actually get a few discussions going on people reading the same title who have varying opinions. (IE: "I'm considering dropping ________. Here's why." "Oh me too but I heard ______ is coming on the title, you might want to wait just a bit longer!")

That and it can serve as a "What I'm getting as a result of this months PREVIEWS" kinda topic as well. Like, there are ALWAYS titles in previews where I go, "Hmm, let me try that an issue" hence that would be a special order. Or there are others announced where I go, "Oh HELL yeah. I'm getting that ongoing!" hence pull list.

Get the gist? Cool, cause I really like the idea of keeping track of subscriptions, when people drop titles (and why) and seeing what interests people in previews vs seeing which of those interests they're keeping up with 3 months later.

Ok....

I'll start things off and get the format rolling.

PULL LIST:

Angela: Asgards Assassin
Superior Iron-Man
Thor (female arc)
The Multiversity
Gotham by Midnight
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern: New Guardians
Red Lanterns
Sinestro
Nexus Omnibus
Convergence
Batwoman
Chrononauts
Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return

Star Wars

ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK:

Amazing X-Men: I loved it when it started. Then the Wendigo thing happened and that was "eh" and now I'm just kinda lost as I read it. I'm not certain it's designed for someone who is ONLY reading that X title.

SPECIAL ORDERS:

Spider-Verse titles only
Guardians of the Galaxy (planet venom story issues only)
Batman: Earth One Vol 2
Action Comics #40 (for the Bill and Ted variant)
Batman #40 (for the Mask variant)
Batman: The Animated Series Riddler Action Figure
Alter Ego #132
Back Issue #80

(EDIT: By the way, if it's highlighted in a list, it was in the most recent PREVIEWS. I think that makes more sense than having a completely separate PREVIEWS section.)

    Marvel/ICON
    Avengers
    New Avengers
    Secret Avengers

    Ms. Marvel
    Men of Wrath (mini)
Also, thanks to some great ongoing digital swaps:
    All New X-Men
    Uncanny X-Men
    Thor
    Uncanny Avengers
    Amazing X-Men
And there also some titles I pick away at through Marvel Unlimited, like Captain America, Ultimate universe titles, Wolverine here and there, Punisher, etc. Though lately I have had little enough tablet time that I might drop Unlimited for a few months or a year and rejoin later.

    DC/Vertigo
    Multiversity

    Gotham By Midnight

NEW ONES I'M TRYING/ON THE FENCE
    Bitch Planet
    Drifter

    Suiciders
    Rat God (mini)
    Star Wars
    Darth Vader (mini)

It has been awhile since I have looked at it as a pull list. I notice that I am getting a lot of things, which is probably why I am behind on reading a lot of them. But I also don't think I have ever had so much great choice for genres other than superheroes to follow, many by some of my favorite creators. As a result, the creator-owned vs. company owned breakdown of what I am buying is probably the inverse of what it was four or five years ago.

Thank you sir! Yeah, I was thinking about 2014 the other day and thought I'd really like to know what I was reading then VS what I was reading now and WHY I stopped whatever I stopped. Maybe there was something I could revisit?

Ok so you're reading Amazing X-Men too but ALSO other X books. Is Amazing X-Men just not built for people ONLY reading that series you think?

Sorry, I should probably say that I have been digitally amassing Amazing X-Men, thanks to an ongoing swap, and look forward to reading them someday. But truth be told I don't know if I have read any of them yet. I still haven't made a habit of reading on the tablet, so things tend to stack up there even more than the paper comics do.

EDIT- Though I am only a month or two behind on All-New and Uncanny. To me, those have been excellent from the start. And I think they compliment each other, but could also be enjoyed individually. If you end up dropping Amazing, I would suggest going back for one of those.
  • PULL LIST
    Image/Dark Horse
    Revival
    Walking Dead
The "Fire & Stone" minis (Prometheus, Aliens, AvP, Predator) (ending in a month or two)

    DC/Vertigo
    Batman
Batman Eternal (ending for Convergence, but supposedly picking up again after it, unlike the other two weeklies)
    Detective Comics
    Earth 2
Earth 2 Worlds End (ending for Convergence)
    Futures End (ending for Convergence)
    Grayson
Multiversity (Should be ending about the middle of the year)
Sandman (I'm thinking this will end about the middle of the year?)
Unwritten (final issue due in a month or two - it's been delayed)

NEW ONES I'M TRYING AND ON THE FENCE
Convergence main book and various tie-in issues
    Justice League
    Justice League United
    The Life After
    Superman
Star Wars main book and the other new Marvel SW books

So with a few of these books ending about the same time as Convergence and the other Star Wars books start coming out, I should be able to get those without a big change in spending.

    Great idea!!!

    DC

Swamp Thing (ending with Convergence, hoping it'll restart after)
    Batwoman (as above)
Secret Origins (as above, but would've dropped it anyway)
Earth 2 (I'll be dropping with Convergence, gone rapidly downhill since Worlds End)
Justice League United (I'll be dropping after this story arc, love the art in this though, just lost interest)
    Justice League
    Multiversity
    Gotham by Midnight
Secret Six (currently on the fence with)

    Image

    Saga
    Deadly Class
    Outcast
    Sex Criminals

    Marvel

    Thor

    Valiant

    The Valiant (mini series)
    Ninjak
    Divinity (mini series)

This will look very different in couple months time.
  • Cool idea let's see if I can remember all the stuff I get

    Batman Eternal
    Deathstroke
    Earth 2 World's End
    Flash

    Green Lantern

    Harley Quinn
    New 52 Future's End
    New Suicide Squad
    Red Lanterns
    Secret Origins
    Secret Six
    Sinestro
Star Spangled War Stories; G.I. Zombie

    Image
    Clone
    C.O.W.L.
    East of West
    IXth Generation
    Lazarus
    Morning Glories
    Postal
    Rise of The Magi
    Thief of Thieves
    Think Tank

    Marvel
    Hulk
    Moon Knight

    Valiant
    Archer and Armstrong
    Bloodshot
    Divinity
    Imperium
    Ivar Timewalker
    Ninjak
    Rai
    The Valiant
    Unity
    X-O Manowar

    Other Independents
    Bunker
    Epochalypse
    Letter 44
    The Resurrectionists
    Uber

I really read too many books so when a lot of these end I do not necessarily plan on replacing them, but who knows. I am a big fan of Charles Soule and he has a new creator owned coming soon as well as some other Marvel titles which I suspect may include a run on Daredevil and a solo Iceman title. So I may be increasing my Marvel pulls. Also I read just about everything Valiant to that will also continue.

    I really like this idea:

My current pull list is pretty small because I switched to trades on DC after Flashpoint, and I get trades for almost every indie book I read.

    Marvel
    Hulk
    Hulk Adjace Title
    Miracle Man
    Daredevil

    Indie
    Knights of the Dinner

    Trades
    Saga
    Black Science
    Southern Bastards
    Lazarus

    Dropped
    Wonder Woman trades

    Just curious.

@CageNarleigh‌ - honestly, I think it was the art that really turned me off. The writing was fair, but I just could not stand the watercolor look on shiny glossy paper. I don't often get drawn in to art over story or vice versa, but I keep Silver Surfer on my list because the art is sooooo awesome.
  • Yeah I hear you. When I opened issue one, I was pretty turned off by the art. But part of me wants to keep buying it because it was something different and another part of me wants to buy it because I want to show DC they can set a book in Gotham WITHOUT involving Batman every other issue.
  • Alright well....I dropped it.

Amazing X-Men is interesting and it's the first X title I've read in a long time (if not ever) but it's IMPOSSIBLE to read if it's the ONLY X title you're reading. Seriously. It jumps all over the damn place. Like how the holy F did Kurt go evil? And when (if at all) did it get resolved? Because it's sure as crap not mentioned in the VERY NEXT ISSUE.

Sigh. So, so long Amazing X-Men. I loveth thee. Firestar my love, we shall meet again I hope.

That was one of the great things I loved about Simon Dark (it also happened to be really good), and one of the awesome things about Hitman (one of my all time favorite series).

Blast you Marvel . . . Just when I was getting in a rhythm and ordering my three Marvel books, three DC books and a smattering of Image/IDW/etc. you go off and do something like a Star Wars launch. Not only did I pick up the book (first Star Wars book ever for me), but I was so hooked I have ordered both the Darth Vader and Princess Leia limited series'. Not to mention I have fallen into their trap with giving Howard the Duck, Ant Man, and Squirrel Girl a go. Well played sirs and madams, well played.

DC - time to step it up. Just focus on writing good books with a solid art. May I suggest that when Snyder/Capullo pull of of Batman that we sign on James Tynion IV and Ethan van Sciver? Who wouldn't buy that? (no one say "me" because that would hurt my fragile ego - just kidding :)).

Only a temporary drop. Will be added back to the list once Convergence is done. I'm actually really enjoying the series. Although I hear Templesmith will be leaving art duties which will be a shame, as it's perfect for the tone of the book.

Justice League will also be back on. Secret Six I'm on the fence about. I'll see after issues 2 & 3 whether it stays on.

    PULL LIST:

    MARVEL: Angela: Asgards Assassin
    MARVEL: Superior Iron-Man (Dropped)
    MARVEL: Thor (female arc)
    DC: The Multiversity
    DC: Green Lantern
    DC: Sinestro

    MARVEL: Star Wars (Dropped)
    MARVEL: A-Force
    IDW: Insufferable
    IMAGE: The Mantle
DEVILS DUE ENTERTAINMENT: 7 Days of Death

    ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK:

Gotham by Midnight: Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the concept. I love the story. But the art is just NOT for me. I think it's perfect for the series, but sometimes it's just too much of a distraction for me.

    SPECIAL ORDERS:

    MARVEL: Night Nurse #1
MARVEL: Venom by Rick Remender: The Complete Collection Vol 1 TPB
    VERTIGO: The Wake TPB
    TWOMORROWS: Back Issue #81

    CONSIDERING BEFORE ORDERING:

    IDW: The Bigger Bang TPB

Never heard of it before, but the cover art and the concept intrigue me. Anyone heard of this mini-series?
(UPDATE: Scratch that. Saw some interior pages on IDW's website. The art isn't for me.)

BLUE JUICE COMICS: Accelerators: Momentum #1

Another intriguing concept. The way it's titled I'm assuming there have been prior story-lines. But this one is a group of time lost people who are with a time machine that can ONLY go forward.

BLACK MASK COMICS: The Disciples #1

I don't know. The concept seems mildly interesting but something about the cover just caught my eye...
