I'm old enough to have stopped posting 3 or 4 years ago. My only comment is I am glad to see that people can actually post now. The 'Hazel' references are back to a time when if anyone said anything remotely controversial it was deleted instantly and threats where handed out. That would also be why I stopped posting. I am happy to see this thread.
Now if I could only reactivate my real username...!
Help me with my memory. I thought the Hazel thing was about someone redirecting CGS users to a porn site.
Rebis - that was pretty much it. I believe it was the forums first real hit of someone using an alias to promote their porno site. As the person used a female name, many people on here behaved like most men do when a woman enters a comic store, and eventually she got herself banned for one too many porno posts. If you have internet access and you need to come HERE to get porn fix? You're really not trying. :)
The aftermath of that was when Khwan, an actual female and talented artist, showed up and many of us, angry over "The Hazel Incident" treated her with suspicion and contempt. Not one of the forums' finest hours, to put it lightly.

Yep. Guilty.
However, "Hazel" was but the first of several in rapid succession. The other one I remember specifically was "Hannah Solo".

Followed by a creepy, rhyming demon version of WetRats. Pandering to some very specific kinks.

Yeah, Khwan was victim of some really unfortunate timing, which was too bad because not only was she real, but she was also very nice, too.

She's still pretty damn cool, and I'm glad that she dropped by...even if she still owes me some CDs.

Yeah it was something like that... But in the aftermath there was all this confusion over who or what "Hazel" was. It just became verboten to speak about and even if you made a joke about it it was deleted or the thread was locked. The same with the whole Chuck Satterlee thing.. I still cringe to write the name for fear of getting crapped on.
Nothing gets people more curious than to be kept in the dark about something.. and it just adds fuel to the fire when you are seen trying to cover up or hide it.
There was no confusion @ Hazel. Just like this thread's original topic, chalk it up to some listeners thinking they knew the skinny and were clearly wrong. Nice attempt at a spin but it was asked at the time for the listeners to chill and some decided to carry on. Forums aren't a democracy. Act like a dweeb, get treated like one. :)

Ok, so i thought i was going to say some things here but Wood took a lot of the words out of my mouth.
So i was an old school poster. i never reached the heights of some of the other posters. but i was here commenting away for years. then to be honest the forum died down a bit, (comics seemed to boom! here in my home city of melbourne australia, so i wasn't as starved for comic talk) But i was still listening to the show.
Then to be honest around the time Mike came on was when i truly started dropping off CGS. Let me pause here to say i don't know mike, i have never meet mike and have never harboured ill will towards him. Did i leave the show because of mike? no, but was he a factor in my leaving looking back on it, yeah he probably was. Mike is a smart man and has a wealth of comic knowledge but personally i am not fan of comic podcasters who are also trying to break into the industry (some exceptions ) I find often the " i wouldn't have done this / I'd do it this way, " grates on me , Is that unreasonable talk for a comic podcast, hell no, but it is something i don't wish listen to.
There are other factors too, Peter and bryan leaving, the dying off of the side episodes. and as much as i love the other geeks who have stuck around i tend to find their reading habits tend to stagnate and with out someone driving the conversation it feels like repeats. Mike was often the one driving New conversations, and in all honesty those conversations were ones i did not want to be apart of.
Now i didn't complain about this change of direction, i didn't send emails or comments, i just dropped off thinking "great memories but the show ain't for me anymore" (accept Murds time bubble which is a show made only with me in mind i am pretty sure) If this is what listeners want then for let them enjoy it, i still have a lot of other comics podcasts...
But at the same time returning here now it seems i wasn't the only one who dropped off, perhaps mike leaving isn't so much about mike as much as it is getting back to the basics of CGS. Can you ever truly go home again ? who knows, but the "riding out the storm " episode was one of my 2012 podcast highlights as it felt like classic CGS to me (minus all the horrible storm crap)
Now i also wish to echo Wood is his praise of Pants who has done a wonderful job of steering the ship, but also his new interest in marvel has add new light and energy to the show and is a HUGE part of my saving grace in my return. Good job pants
I also think it is worth noting that while us old timers have been away it seems a new community has popped up, and i a sure for a lot of them this era of CGS i am not a fan of is their CGS, i mean no disrespect to it, its just not my cup of tea, but hopefully this new era of CGS is one we can all enjoy.
I wish Mike all the best in future endeavours, i wish the geeks luck in the future of the show and i wish Adam will get in the time machine and get us some more timebubbles !!!
Nice to pop in again Deadpool (eddie ) Melbourne Australia
I couldn't really figure out where to post this so I figured this was as good of a place as any.
Before it was announced (and before he knew) that Mike was being let go from CGS, I had him co-host the debut episode of a spin off podcast I was starting for 'The Lanterncast' called 'The Lanterncast Presents: Green Lantern/Green Arrow'.
The very first episode was all about the history of the comics industry leading up until the creation of the Comics Code Authority. I had Mike on for the reason that everyone else has already acknowledged, Mike has a WEALTH of information about the industry as well has holds a love for publications involving the history of the industry.
It was fun to have him on. Well, that episode is finally up. If you folks would like to hear Mike talk once more about comics and comics history, swing by iTunes or the website to download and listen to the show. If you can, send me an email with your comments on the show.
chad@lanterncast.com
This is a very new spin off and I have INCREDIBLE things planned for this show and also plan to make it as reverent to the material as I can. I'm really hoping for some feedback!
NOTE: If you plan on listening from iTunes, then just look up Lanterncast. Its part of the main feed.
I have been listening since 08 and I have listened to every episode. I think Mike had a wealth of knowledge but I never liked him on the show because he did not gel with the group. I hope he has a lot of success in life because he seems like a good guy but I am glad he is off the show.
I. I abhor the cult of personality that surrounds some of them and I realize that it is nothing they adopted but have to deal with. I'm sure just like me each one of them have some personality trait I dont care for and I actually enjoy the show more when
All that being said and I hate dipping my toe in these waters, the sudden re- appearnce of all the "old-timers" for lack of a better word unitentinally gives the appearnce of Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.
I fully admit that it probably is not an intentional thing but a happy side-effect of Mike being gone. There just seems to be an undercurrent of all is better, look at all these guys who are back now that Mike is gone. They are back for whatever reason and I do not know any of them to even really make that connection but as a guy with no friendships or Facebook connections within this community, I just feel like people are dancing on Mike's grave un-intentionally or not. If he's off the show, he's off the show. I felt the same absence when Peter left, a Geek who I had much more in common with comic-wise than any of them. C'est La Vie. I did not feel entitled to know why he left and Mike's sin is not my business.
I just felt like saying it feels pretty sh**ty and makes the separation that tougher to swallow. I miss you Mike and while I will still listen to the show and enjoy every Geek on the show and the forum members, I wanted to put my pointless voice to this temptest in a teapot. Good Luck!
Thanks! You nailed it.
I have two podcasts now. Film Jury will be up shortly. Several episodes are recorded. We are almost done with the website. Thefilmjury.com Also I am working on a podcast called nerdhub. We will be launching this in first quarter 2013. Both can be accessed by Facebook and twitter. I participate often on Flint's Everything Comes Back to 2000AD.
I haven't been on here in a while. I enjoyed reading through this thread. I felt the love many of you shared with me. Laughed at the vitriol over how insidious I was. I'm cranking away at life. My comic drawing plate is full. I'm still friends with Adam and Pants btw. If you wish to keep up with me I frequent the 2000ad boards and Facebook. Thanks again everyone. Gotta go back to my star fucking... Cheers!
Thanks for the update Mike(even if you did give the hornet's nest a slight rattle) I'll be looking forward to your future podcasts. I'm not a Facebook or twitter user so please drop by again when they are officially up.

Listened to the first episode of Film Jury a week or so ago and it is a fun podcast.
I signed up back during the original meltdown of this thread with intentions of chiming in but held off because I didn't want to come across as a new poster who was just dogpiling on the rabbit. Since this thread was bumped, by the subject no less, showing that someone hasn't moved on, it's as good as time as any to jump in with the following: I'd just like to offer that the show has been much much much lighter in tone, content and camaraderie since Mike's departure. I am thankful to the Geeks for doing what was right and for thinking of the show and the listeners first, regardless of how they themselves might be perceived because of it all. Take a bow, sirs! It was great meeting those of you that made it out to Emerald City over the past few years (Pants, Bryan, Peter and Adam I think?). Hope to see you again in 2013!!!

i don't know what you have been listening too, since mike has left it comes across as we lucky they still make the podcast, and pants has nag them to turn up.

If I might interject here; this couldn't be farther from the truth. Pants doesn't nag, bribe, or force any of us to show up for any episode. In fact, this is the time we normally get to hang out with each other nowadays.
Now, this notion could easily be drawn from MY comments on the Marvel NOW! episodes, but that's a reflection of the books & marketing scheme, not the show itself. I can only make one recording a week right now, and Pants allowed me some input about which one I can make. If I didn't WANT to be there, I wouldn't be. Pants would try to schedule another episode for my availability.
As far as I know, there have been no comments, hints, or general atmosphere that anyone was tied to a studio chair for the recordings.

We are lucky they still make the podcast, it's an awesome show that comes out frequently for free, I feel lucky to have it.
