Jamie's sister Shana has posted on Facebook that the Memorial Service for Jamie will be webcast starting Wednesday May 7th at 10:45am and will also be available to re-watch later in the day. More info on links to come.
This is heart breaking news. It speaks a lot about him that he never gave me the impression on the podcast that he was that ill. You don't need a superpower to be heroic. I'll keep him in my prayers.
I'm so sorry for everyone's loss. Jamie was such a nice and passionate guy. He really did make a mark on all this. I was such a fan of his I would always try to draw a birthday card for him at each super show to give back in some small way for all the hours he shared with the podcast. He was very nice about my artwork. Meeting and talking with his sister Shana at supershow my wife and I really enjoyed that time, I'm rambling, it's a big deal, he will be sorely missed.
Ah, I'm so sorry to read this. I haven't kept up w/ CGS in recent years, but listened religiously for the first few years of the podcast. Jamie was a constant. Even when i would take a quick peek back at the podcast feed, I'd see he was still carrying the banner.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at a few NYC cons. Great, and kind man.
My prayers and thoughts go out to Jamie D, his immediate family and his extended family (all of us). I listen to the show at work and was out sick on Friday, so I heard about our loss when my iTunes updated this morning. I won't be able to attend the memorial service, but I'll listen to it when I get home Wednesday (we aren't allowed to stream here). I'll probably listen to a vintage Jamie podcast that day while you're all there. I was trying to figure out when I started listening to the show and I think it was in the late 200's or early 300's, so Jamie has been a part of my week and my work life for a long time. I will miss his voice.
I won't be able to make it to the service, but I am so glad to have heard about the online ability to be there. Thank you very much for opening that up to all of us.
It was great hearing everyone talk about Jamie on the episode that was released. I love that everyone is expected to where their comic and geek related shirts. That is truly a fitting tribute from what I know of Jamie.
Even though I know that day will be sad, I hope it's also filled with laughter and smiles as you all celebrate his life and what he means to all of us.
Jamie's pop culture memories and tastes were closest to my own and my thoughts go out to his family. To the Geeks, I grieve for the loss of your friend. I was lucky to meet him several times and different events and he was as advertised.
One of the reasons I finally joined the forums was to comment on how much I enjoyed Jamie's contribution to the discussions throughout the years on the podcast. Thank you Jamie D for all you've done. Godspeed, sweet prince!
Just heard tonight. Very sad, and hard to accept given how many hours I've spent at the drawing table or in front of the computer listening to his thoughts on the hobby as I worked. Never see the art of John Byrne, or Captain America or the Avengers these days without thinking of him. I know he was a man of faith, and I believe that he's looking around in awe at what's been prepared for him.
My heart really breaks hearing the passing of Jamie D. I will always remember his distinctive voice and his wit. I always loved his presence on the shows. He is integral to elevating my hobby to becoming an essential part of my life. God bless you Jamie and we will see you again.
Not to distract from the loss of Jamie, but we had another heartbreak in the extended forum family this week. David (Geek Syndicate) Montieth and his wife lost a child this week. Please keep them in your thoughts/prayers as well.
