Give it a shot. Looks interesting. I know nothing of the character but saw (and actually liked) the movie. I even got to visit the set during my visit to wb studios.
Depending on where it falls on the schedule, I'll give it a chance. It looks like it's trying to be faithful to the character, at least as far as being on broadcast TV will allow.
A new Constantine trailer, which includes a shot of what is presumably Dr. Fate's helmet, has been released. I don't know about you, but out of all the new comic book related television series, this one intrigues me most.
There's a lot of hub-bub being made about Constantine not smoking in this TV show. I heard about it a couple days ago, but just saw it on Yahoo News here.
It's 2014, who cares. Less that 20% of US adults smoke. Ditto for the UK. Unless it's going to be a period piece, or you really, really want to do Dangerous Habits (again), you can let the smoking go as easily as the pronunciation of his name.
Friend borrowed my flash drive and when he gave it back, put a copy of the pilot on there.
Not quite sure how he got it (though I suspect some torrent site) but once I had it, the temptation to watch was far too great. Here follows my NON SPOILER thoughts.
I enjoyed it. I'm not familiar with Constantine or his immediate supporting cast, so I wasn't dragged down by any (if there even was any) misrepresentations of DC characters or supernatural "rules".
Enjoyed the appearance of the Helm of Nabu (Doctor Fates helmet) but it was just that, a touch-point cameo of an item highly recognized by fans. Hopefully we get more in this series. Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Deadman, Doctor Fate and Ragman being my chief hopes for guest appearances.
Not really "sold" on the female lead. Not certain if it's bad acting or what, but I wasn't completely sucked in to her story. But hey, first episode of a first season, I suppose we have to give it time to find it's legs.
Constantine himself was fine. Though I agree with him not smoking I did kind of miss it. Don't get me wrong, he was awesome without it. But I feel like lighting up a cigarette in dark places could serve as cool dramatic flair at times. But like I said, I was ok with it not being there.
Other male supporting characters, the first one we see is compelling given his origin and a bit of a douche too...not sure if I'm going to like him.
The other one didn't say enough for me to get a feel for the character. So curious about his purpose in the show. And the final one we saw was a nice touch-point to Johns history and more precisely, a touch-point to the ramifications of being involved in Johns line of "work".
Well that's about as non-spoilery as I can get it. I think my issues with the show, if any, stem only from a slight non-familiarity with the source material (which helps increase my excitement with Flash and Arrow as I recognize the name drops) but mostly just first episode of first season issues. I'll give it a few episodes to find it's feet, but not NEARLY as long as I gave M:AOS.

Spectre looks like a possiblity, as they've announced that Detective Jim Corrigan will be appearing at some point.

I hate it when those ancient evils arise...
Thanks for posting! I like it.
(And I did enjoy the movie...it certainly wasn't perfect but it had a nice charm to it)
Here's a scene from the pilot
You'd think they'd get the pronunciation correct on the second attempt wouldn't you?
I'll still give it a go, but it has work to do to win me over.
British? Tick
Blond? Tick
Scruffy? Tick
Tan Trench Coat? Tick
Bollocks? Tick

Still, though, I will try to keep an open mind and give it a try.
