My pull list is shrinking considerably from DC with this. Swamp Thing, Batwomen, Secret Origins all cancelled. I'll be dropping JLU and Earth 2 this month. Leaving only Justice League, Gotham By Midnight and Secret Six.

I'm out for Convergence, but hoping they'll be some good stuff kicking off after.
  • You know, I just got back into comics in 2013 after not reading anything for five years and one of the easiest ways for me to do so was to just pick up books by my favorite creators and go from there. J.M. DeMatteis happens to be one of those favorites of mine and seeing Trinity Of Sin on this list means that he will have had THREE titles cancelled in barely a year's time.

On a positive note, I am glad to see a house cleaning in the Green Lantern line. Hopefully this will cut down on the obnoxious crossovers between all the GL books and just leave Green Lantern and Sinestro to stand on their own.

I've been saying on the LanternCast for well over a year now. Amen brother.

I mean, QUALITY wise I think Red Lanterns and New Guardians were better than the others (until Sinestro came along). I'm not saying they weren't without their faults, but they were more likely to have a great issue than GL or GLC. But what company is going to cancel GL or GLC in favor of keeping NG and RL? lol So I guess it makes sense.

The problem is, cancelling GLC makes me think this is a gimmick tied into Convergence. Convergence will happen and GLC will come back. Because, regardless of how I feel about the quality of the series, cancelling GLC doesn't make sense.

I'm not heartbroken about Red Lanterns or New Guardians. I think that they've tried to do something interesting with Guy Gardner in Red Lanterns, but the characters are tough to do anything with over a long term. New Guardians has the fatal flaw of being a Kyle Rayner book. He's slightly more tolerable as something other than a Green Lantern, but still not a character that I care about.

    Agreed on DeMatteis.

That Weirdworld stuff is beautiful...the story is warmed over Tolkien, but John Buscema and Mike Ploog doing fantasy? It's purty.

I like that Marvel is mining their back catalog for some of the old-timey gems that might have fallen through the cracks.

Still holding out for that Essential Team America! :)

You mean Thunderiders. Since Team America was a toy line they had to rename it.

I am still waiting for the dark and gritty R. U. Reddy mini-series.

Wake me when we finally get a MARVEL MAX M'BAKU THE MAN APE.

They should do it for the alliteration alone.

Trade Paperback of Alan Moore's Top Ten in with DC's too.

Never read it, but heard a lot of good things. That'll be on my list.

Well, frankly that story has been retconned back and forth so many times, I don't know what to believe anymore. Even Kirby retconned himself, then Byrne tried to fix it, then... well, you probably know better than I do. I thought you might get a kick out of this cover regardless @DoctorDoom‌

They better not forget to include the two issues of New Mutants they appeared in. Those are important character development issues for Team America.

    Ha, I did, thanks, @bralinator :)

But I was referring to (last year's?) FF series with She-hulk, Medusa, Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and Ms. Thing, where it was a (biggish) thing at the end.

That series was so silly sometimes that I often wonder if it was even canon. But yeah, you're right

    Thank you reddit:
    The most recent state of Doom's Face is that, for years, it had been unblemished and the neurosis he lived with caused him to overly worry about his features. Unfortunately for Victor, his recent efforts to tap into cosmic forces and utilize them for his own selfish goals caused the karmic wrath of The Living Tribunal to come down on him hard. For his recent transgressions, as seen in Matt Fraction's stellar FF series, the Tribunal says this;

"Let the punishment fit the crime. From this day forth, each base act of malice on your part will carve a new scar on your heretofore unblemished face. [...] Hide behind whatever mask as you will, there is no escape. Let the content of your character be displayed upon your features. Let your face exhibit the ongoing portrait of your heart. You and you alone are responsible for any scars that may mar your face. No other power may harm it, no other power may heal it."
As well as (in response to someone asking if it's invulnerable) :
The opposite - for each act of malice he commits, going into the future, he'll have a new scar appear on his visage. So, at the moment, it seems to be pristine, but if the latest issue of Original Sins (#4) is any indication, his face is already turning into a meaty mess once again.

I think that's a good way to say it counted, and "hey, his face is all messed up (again)!

  • Completely agree sir. I currently read the entire GL Line, and many of them have started to become tolerable, or more appropriately...form of habit. Sadly many characters will be missed, and I can't imagine DC doesn't have something up their sleeves to place them. At least, one can hope.

Actually, what's funny about their guest appearance in The New Mutants is that since they're revealed to be a mutant "collective", that essentially means that Team America awkwardly joined Daydreamers, Slingers, Loners, Dazzler, Alpha Flight, Exiles, Mutant X, The Champions and every other title starring at least one or more mutant characters that's not an official X-Men spinoff.

Sometimes I feel like Marvel comics is like a game of Othello. Replace the black and white pieces with mutants and Spider-People. Whoever has the most presence wins!

I think Shooter revealed that in the last issue of their 12 issue series. Having read them when I was about 17, the "mystery" was pretty annoyingly simple to solve: It was a ripoff of Kirby's Infinity Man and the Unimind from the Eteranls. Shooter treated Kirby like crap, but loved stealing his ideas.

So, I was at my LCS earlier today and one of my purchases was Trinity Of Sin #3. I was talking to the owner about the many DC titles getting axed and mentioned Trinity Of Sin and he said he wasn't in the least bit surprised it was getting cancelled, which mirrored Chris' own sentiments in the recent Comic Talk episode.

My wife and I actually really enjoyed the first two issues and are both big DeMatteis fans. Which leads me to ask, is there anybody else out there who enjoys this title as well and who also enjoyed DeMatteis' previous efforts with Trinity Of Sin: The Phantom Stranger?

I've only read the first issue so far and I thought is was well written. The problems with the book have nothing to do with the creative team:

It's not something that should have been a #1. It's very clearly an amalgamation of the previous Phantom Stranger series with the Pandora series and continues on where those two series cut off. Better would have been to have done a title change: Phantom Stranger (or Pandora) becomes Trinity of Sin featuring... Becomes Trinity of Sin.

At best it was a niche book to begin with and, IMO haven't gotten much in the way of support, standing pretty much on its own in the Nu52.

It's a Nu52 version and as such is perceived to be inherently inferior to that which came before.

For myself, I'll likely pick up the rest of the issues in the series just to see where it goes.
