Darkseid does not fight. Darkseid should never be a character throwing punches. Darkseid is the force behind, he directs and if he has to get involved both his target AND whoever he sent to do his bidding are history.
He embodies the power of the throne, not the warriors who fight for it.
This story always annoyed me. All the self-repairing, DNA enhanced, kryptonian, adaptability in the multiverse is not up to Darkseid. He is not a supervillian. He's a God (new or otherwise) . And not a God like Pan or Hestia. He's a Sky God level being. Some would argue Doomsday could be an avatar or Darkseid. I'd concede that. Jurgens gave his creation the advantage. Also, by having Doomsday beat Darkseid, the reader can be awestruck by Supes beating Doomsday...with entropy. Lame.
My problem with that Hunter/Prey is that the I wanted ali-frazier 2 instead we got a klitschko fight. doomsday beating darkseid wasn't impressive and it didn't show us superman was anymore super tough than when he battled doomsday the first time.
I know this will date me but superman/doomsday 1 is one of my favorite comic fights ever.
Are we talking pre-Crisis Darkseid or modern-era Darkseid, by Johns and Loeb?
I'd actually prefer to see THIS battle.
Although a cool fight in concept, Thanos is a mortal (yes, a nigh invulnerable Eternal, but still mortal) while Darkseid is more. According to http://www.dccomics.com/characters/darkseid, "He’s no less than the single most dangerous villain in the universe." (The internet would not mislead me nor would DCs official site).
More specifically, Thanos is a mutant Eternal with the Deviant gene. (*GeekSpeak)
Though if he wields the Infinity Gauntlet, he can kick everyone from Galactus to Eternity's butts. And remember, Galactus beat Darkseid in the Byrne crossover.
@bralinator, don't even get me started on the Galactus battle. How does an entity who wears a containment suit have most of it torn off and continuen to contain his energy. And why does he look human to a mutant deviant Eternal?
And, Aunt Petunia could kick everyone's butts if she had the I. Gauntlet (and she would be much easier on the eyes...Byrne sure can draw hotties).
I always hate it when Darkseid's treated as a Superman villain. That fact alone is enough to make me want to see his upcoming war against the Anti-Monitor in Justice League. He should be this epic force of universal nature, not somebody you can punch real hard and knock down.

The way Kirby used their battle was genius. Superman kept looking for a physical conflict and Darkseid outwitted him at Every. Single. Turn.

just like any other battle between 2 comic book characters. The truth was bound to come out.
i'll pass & catch the footnote mentioned somewhere later.

Should be a good fight, regardless.
