This is one of my all-time favorite Suicide Squad covers -- the first "Personal Files" issue, with art from Jerry Bingham.
Little did I know, until I saw it on ebay a few years back, that Luke McDonnell, regular artist for the series, had done a similar cover for this issue.
And, hey, Firebrand is making a comeback too! I guess this will be Firebrand V? Firebrand’s first appearance in Police Comics #1 (Aug. 1941), cover art by Gill Fox.
And leave us not forget Neon the Unknown. Neon first appeared in Hit Comics #1, but didn’t make the cover until issue #2 (Aug. 1940), with cover art by Lou Fine.
Today’s entry from the DC cover-a-day calendar: Countdown #18, cover penciled and inked by Karl Kerschl with color by Dave McCaig. At least they didn’t remove the credits this time, as the cover had no credits or signatures to begin with. They did remove all the trade dress and logos, making it surprisingly difficult for me to figure out what book the artwork appeared on.
Jon J Muth! Kent Williams! The art in this book was off the chart. I don't remember much about the story, but with the Simonsons involved, I can't imagine it was bad. Might have to reacquaint myself with this, at some point.

I remember liking it well enough. More of a character study type of story, if I recall correctly. And, yes, the artwork was fantastic. I'm pretty sure both Muth and Williams were both living in the Chapel Hill, N.C., area (not far from where I live) when they were working on it—I know Williams was, at least.
