The Phantom cover reminded me of Don Newtom's beautiful run of issues.
I have been on the look out for the Phantom comics that Charlton produced. The few times I have found any either they were in really really bad shape,or were priced higher than I am willing to pay. Some company needs to see about putting all the various Phantom comics out in trades.
All Star 58 relaunch must have been a bit of a big deal at the time. Some guy sold his collection to the shop I worked at in the late 80s and had about 100 copies. I don't think he broke even.
3 years ago I ran into Mitch Byrd on FCBD. He was working on a new story about a rodent during the age of dinosaurs. He told me about his series of comics on dinosaurs. Ended up getting this issue that day.
Another book we published: a one-shot Fission Chicken by the talented and irascible J P Morgan. Fish had been in several issues of Fantagraphic's Critters before this, but this was his first book-length adventure (I think; I might be mistaken about that), taking on the alien influences of an interplanetary corporation and the great Mouse empire. Or were they the same thing?
Morgan had continued with Fish as a webcomic up until his sudden death over a year ago.
I don't think Tom Mandrake gets enough love here. This is the first issue of the Martian Manhunter series of the late 90's. John Ostrander and Mandrake were trying to recreate the magic they'd had on their then-recent Spectre series. I don't think they quite succeeded, but it was still an excellent series for all that.
Being as how DC is getting to rewrite the entire concept of an already interesting character -- really, does anyone not understand the concept of "if it anin't broke, don't fix it"? - here's two different looks at the earlier appearances of The Question. First, by the creator, Steve Ditko:

I have always loved the Red Circle heroes. So this issue, with a great cover by Rich Koslowski and Fernando Ruiz, grabbed my attention.
Mitch Byrd is a great artist that it seems most people never talk about.

Badger and Steven Butler are both things that I rarely see online fans talking about. Which is sad cause both are great.
From a few years back when Archie was using a more realistic style for some of their storylines. This cover is by Steven Butler and Al Milgrom.
"Great" cover from Steven Butler that teams up "Spawn" and Venom. Wait that isn't Spawn it's Nightwatch?!?!
Nick Cardy on Superman from DC 1973
