Written and penciled by Mike Grell this series reinvented Green Arrow and changed him into a more street level hero. This series and the Blue Ribbon digest that reprinted classic adventures of Green Arrow are what made me into a fan of Mr Queen.
Here is another comic that I do not own. I remember seeing the ads in the pages of the comics I was reading thinking I how much I wanted to read it but never saw it on the shelves.

Since Ed Brubaker is in the news today for leaving both Winter Soldierand Marvel, I thought I'd put up a cover from one of his earlier works -- a book he both wrote and drew.

I love the Cockrum cover!
Nowhere near his best. It's kind of stiff, and he's riffing on his Legion work with the ship design and the girl wearing Infectious Lass' makeup.

Lowlife was great stuff.I seem to remember Brubaker having a long story in one of the Small Press Expo comics.
It was through the Robotech comics that I learned about the Robotech cartoon. In the area where I grew up Robotech didn't air. So I didn't get to see the cartoon till the early 90s when Sci Fi Channel was airing it every morning.
I was seperated from my comics for 15 or 20 years, and when I went through them a while back I found a copy of Lowlife #1. Kind of surprising to stumble across some early work from the big names like that. I had a Lovecraft comic with some Bendis work in it too.
Lots of great parody work in this issue of the Tick. Topped off with a nice Ben Edlund cover.
It was Dr. Fate and The Tick that pulled me back into comics in 1988. I probably would have gotten back into them eventually anyway, but Edlund definitely sped up the process.

Under this cover by Mike Grell is a story called "The Great Identity Crisis!".
This series is the only thing I have ever bought from Bluewater comics. Mainly cause of the Mike Grell covers.

More Mike Grell greatness. Issue 2 had my favorite cover of the series.
Since we're showing a lot of Mike Grell's work, I thought I'd post one of his few Marvel covers.
This issue will break your heart

Ben Edlund is a creator that I wish had done more comics work. His Tick stuff, and the various spinoffs were great.

It was through the First Comics reprints of Lone Wolf and Cub that I first got into manga.
Seiji Horibuchi
Ryoichi Ikegami
This is one of the other early manga series I ever read. Didn't learn to years later that the Eclipse comics run was slightly edited.

P.S. — “Ninjas. I hate ninjas.” — The Tick
A Marvel romance cover by John Romita (no wonder the girl looks a little like Gwen Stacey to me)
And a dramatic cover by Michael Kaluta
Big Monster
Dave Dwonch
I wonder how many times that X-men cover has been parodied/homage?
Dave Dwonch
Another fun parody/homage from a great talent.
William Stout does a nice tribute cover to the EC horror host gang.
I was so happy when years ago I got a copy of this issue as an early birthday present. Cover artwork by Manuel 'Spain' Rodriguez.
A nice gory cover from Manuel 'Spain' Rodriguez.
