Heck gets overly criticized for his Marvel work, but when he was able to ink himself his talent is much more apparent. He definitely is coming from the Caniff school with the heavy blacks and almost chiaroscuro approach. The only slight problem I have with his Comic Media work is with how he does the folds in clothing. They’re surely not done in a realistic way. Look at the guy’s coat, for instance. That’s not how a coat would fold—not even close. His approach seems to be more about the overall design, and balancing the weight of the blacks in the image than in worrying about any sense of realism. And that’s all well and good; the overall design is more important in most cases. But it seems at this point in his career, Heck has latched onto the surface appearance of Caniff’s work, but hasn’t fully figured out how it actually works. It’s a nice design though.
I have never been a big fan of WildCats. Even the Alan Moore and James Robinson runs. But this mini series by Warren Ellis was great. I didn't get to read it till earlier this year when I got the trade super cheap at a con.
Theres a great story behind this cover. When Gil Kane was approached to do draw it Scott Dunbier sent him a bunch of reference material for all the Stormwatch and Wildcats characters. However when he was asked if he needed reference for the Alien he said he was fine. However Dunbier wasn't clear about the fact it had to be Giger Alien. So Kane drew a generic (but awesome) alien. The link below takes you to Kevin Nowlan's blog where he tells the story better than I can as well as show you the original cover.
This is not one of the comics I got in today. But I could not find images of the covers of them online. Plus one of them I would have to majorly censor.

Inside the book the cover is listed as being done by "The Biz". No idea who that is. But it looks nice.
