Ah, the introduction of Xenozoic Tales and Mark Schultz. This cover and the 12-page story, “Xenozoic,” inside were Mark’s first professional comic book work—though while he was working on this story, he was also inking a King Kull story for Savage Sword of Conan. Actually, the story Mark originally intended to run in Death Rattle was “Mammoth Pitfall!” which ended up in Xenozoic Tales #2.

Until I recently reread that Death Rattle issue I had forgotten it was Schultz's first published work.
I have never been a big fan of WildCats. Even the Alan Moore and James Robinson runs. But this mini series by Warren Ellis was great. I didn't get to read it till earlier this year when I got the trade super cheap at a con.
I did not even know this exisited. I gotta find this.

Try to track down the trade. I has the entire mini series, plus IIRC some tie in issues.
That's amazing! That cover alone would have breached about 10 parts of the comics code. Dr Wertham must have had a field day with that one
It was pre-code. All the covers I posted recently were pre-code. Great stuff. Found a nice site with lots of public domain pre-code stuff. Grabbed a bunch to read next month for Halloween.

You can definitely see the Al Williamson influence coming through—and a little Frazetta too.
