Can we get a seperate thread for the spoiler filled discussion, that way (as inconceivable as it may be) those of us that haven't seen it can still come here to discuss the film and related news?
Which basically means its going to be the biggest August release ever. Which isn't that surprising. August tends to be a little quiet, but this movie could have been a June or July release.

Well, GG2 can certainly be a June/July release now.
Top to bottom, the marketing of this film has been brilliant.
Not since the first Iron Man, have I seen so much pre-release buzz for a brand-new film property.
Bra-freaking-vo.
Many of my comments on other threads may give the impression that I detest marketing and hype.
im slightly worried... NO ONE in my office is interested in seeing it this weekend... and only 10% of my friends and family are thinking of seeing it...
i hope the lines will be long tonight
my local theatre has showing every 30 minutes starting at 7pm tonight

How often are your officemates and your other 90% excited about any movie?
I love it when a movie gets you so hyped that you feel like a kid again waiting to see Star Wars for the very first time. It's a joy that feels like total despair, like your whole life is going to come crashing down if you don't see this movie and you have to see it today because it will be gone tomorrow.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. This won't open to Dark Knight/Avengers/ManOfSteel/IronMan3 type numbers. It's just not in the cards. But it will open to $65 million and will be very successful.

@Chuck_Melville Question about GotG suitability for kids? My daughter turns 9 next Wednesday. I've got a free pass for a pre-release GotG screening from my LCS for that night. She is dying to see it (she has watched the trailers online plenty of times), and is a huge Marvel fan (she is getting a lizard for her birthday, which she has already named "Fin Fang Foom").
Normally I like to pre-screen stuff that my kids watch. I doubt that I will risk it, but this is a great opportunity, and I would love to take her as a surprise for her Birthday. She has watched most of the Harry Potter films and all the Star Wars (yes... even the dreaded prequels), with no ill effects. Where does GotG fall in relation to those films? swearing? violence level? sexy time?
Thanks buddy! However, I'm not gonna read that... purely because I am trying to avoid any further exposure to spoilers and what-not. I'm just going to go see it first and then judge if it is a good fit for my little Marvel Zombie. Unfortunately it may be more than a few days before I can free up the time to make it to the theatre! ugh.
Since we're still in the spoiler-free zone here, all I'm gonna say for now is that the top-to-bottom brilliance and meticulousness of this project includes the fact that seeing all the trailers actually enhanced the experience in a way I've never seen anyone else pull off.

Far from it.
I just detest shoddy marketing and hype.

What a disappointment.
Even better than I expected.
