Former BBC execs Jane Tranter & Julie Gardner (whose past credits include Doctor Who and Torchwood) have launched a new U.K./U.S. film and television production company called Bad Wolf.
Nashville Scene may have let the cat out the bag a tad early. Its website shows a listing for a 3D theatrical release of Doctor Who series eight’s Dark Water & Death in Heaven. This limited engagement is being hosted by Fathom Events (the same folks who brought Deep Breath to U.S. screens). In addition to the two part series 8 finale, Wil Wheaton will host a special series 9 prequel.

As underwhelmed as I was by the finale, I'll still probably see this.
Was this ever intended to be 3D though? I know they can post-convert things, but usually aren't those things shot with that intention to begin with? I'm not sure how much 3D will really add to this.
I'm a little surprised it's not an announcement for the series premiere to be shown in theaters, though maybe that's forthcoming.
I'm a sucker for Fathom. Between Who, Rifftrax, and Turner Classic Movies, I think I've gone to more of those than actual films in recent years.

I saw the season 8 opener this way last year & it was kinda great (not 3D though). I'm in on this sort of thing every time.

I saw that too, but the attendance was pretty poor at my theater (especially when compared to the crowd that showed up for the 50th showing). I'm curious as to how many people turn up for this, even with the added bonus of 3D.

When I reviewed Dark Water for the Wanderers in the 4th Dimension podcast back in November, I pointed out that the some of the scenes looked as if they had been filmed specifically for a 3D theatrical release. We speculated then that the two part finale had been filmed for cinemas, but for whatever reason wasn't released in that format. You can hear that review here:
We'll be reviewing The Three Doctors story on an upcoming Wanderers in the 4th Dimension episode. Our current question-of-the-week asks our followers to pick three Doctors for an all new Three Doctors story arc. Also, we ask them to explain why they chose the Doctors they did and tell us which villain their picks are to face. To promote this week's question, I created this lighthearted Three Stooges homage.
The Wanderers in the 4th Dimension Podcast I co-host will be doing a special look ahead to series 9 episode. I realize this is short notice, but if anyone here wishes to contribute to the episode we're accepting audio recordings of listener comments that we will play back on the episode. It's rather informal. We've listed some sample questions as a starting point, but really they're just guidelines. If an audio recording isn't your shtick, we'll also accept written replies. You can read more about it below.
I wouldn't be surprised. I'd assumed as much already, but after watching her and Capaldi interviewed after the theatrical screening of Dark Water/Death in Heaven, she totally came across as someone obligated to promote something she's already shut the door on. I think she spoke twice in the whole 10-15 minutes.
I think she's been great, but she's reached the upper limits of length for a companion that we've seen in the current series, so unless there's a compelling reason to stay, it's time to move along.
I think Capaldi's Doctor, much like Tom Baker's, would be well-suited to pair up with someone out of the norm for the rest of his tenure, be it alien or from Earth's past or future. I think he just works better removed from contemporary Earth.
I didn't read the article. Will try to get to it later.
I hope that Clara has a happy ending (get your minds out of the gutter). I'm not sure how I would feel if her exit is brought about by some sort of tragedy.

Seeing as how we've had two depressing (almost) goodbyes for her, I would hope they come up with a happy resolution instead of trying to top them in the sadness department.
And if it involves her dying and ending up with Danny Pink, I'll be very disappointed. I think she's earned something unique and respectful towards the character. Maybe even leave the door open for her to return in the future for a guest spot.

Edit: Here's a slightly better quality version that isn't split into two parts.

Congratulations, Sir John Hurt!
but he’ll be happy to kiss you to death.

WANDERERS IN THE 4TH DIMENSION PODCAST WANTS YOUR INPUT.
We'll be taking a break from our classic Doctor Who coverage in order to cover the new material the week it premieres. To prepare for the upcoming series 9, we're going to record a special "Look Ahead" episode. Wit4D wants to know: What aspects of series 9 are you looking forward to the most? What unresolved plot points would you like to see addressed? What characters would you like to see return? What locations would you like to see the Doctor visit? Is there a writer attached to series 9 that you're excited about? Was there a particular scene in any of the official trailers that intrigued you (etc... etc... etc...)? If you'd like to respond via an audio recording, we'll consider playing your recording on the episode. Try to keep recordings under a minute (but we'll allow for some wiggle room). If you send us an audio file, be sure to include your name and whereabout on the world you reside. You may also reply in the comments section below. PM us your audio file submissions (use Facebook's attachment feature). Alternatively, you can send them to Podcast@wanderin4d.com We can't guarantee all responses will be read on the podcast, but we'll do our best to include as many as we can. This special episode was a bit of a last-minute decision, and as such we don't have a whole lot of time to produce it. We will likely record this special episode on Monday, September, 14th, so please get those replies in ASAP.
