I did like Heaven Sent, but it did get really repetitive towards the end. It just screamed of padding.
It actually ran long (I want to say close to 55 minutes), so they didn't actually need to pad. But I do agree the montage could have been trimmed a little. The reveal of what his actual plan was didn't click with me when it should have because my attention had strayed a bit. Even just trimming a few seconds here and there would have helped.

I disagree. There needed to be some appreciation for the time it took to "go the long way around".
Heaven Sent received some of the highest combined ratings we've ever given a story arc. You'll have to wait until Thursday to find out just how high it scored. (New Wanderers in the 4th Dimension podcast episodes come out every Thursday.)
Moffat said that a while ago, but I guess they're just reporting it now. The rumor I heard (which may be substantiated by a later shooting schedule) is that series 10 will start later, and the Christmas special will air at the series' midpoint. IF you ask me, that sounds like two truncated series being billed as one.

If they just treat it as one season, I think I'd be fine with it.
I think the biggest problems I had with Smith's split seasons wasn't so much the time in between, but the awkward break in the middle forcing them to rebuild their momentum mid-story arc. The Doctor abandoning Amy and Rory for no apparent reason at the end of A Good Man Goes to War, and condensing Clara's introduction into the back end of a season did the show no favors. I think it works much better to have 12-13 episodes straight through.
I was thoroughly pleased with this year's Christmas special. My family and I just watched it tonight (12/27). Since we don't have cable, I've got to wait until it's up on iTunes and when we all have an evening home together. I loved the nods to superheroes in general and specifically to the Superman film (1978). Good fun after watching Rogue One yesterday and the news of Carrie Fisher today. I needed it.
Agreed. It was more a homage to super-heroes than a Dr Who episode, but it worked and I was entertained. I especially like the idea of PCap's Dr with a butler.

Yeah, I also want to get into The audio stuff as well, so I figure I'll at least sample a bit of each of the doctors.
Assuming I like the stuff, of course.
I've condensed my review of the series nine finale to single meme.
