After watching Smackdown Friday night my interest in WM has went down some. Two of the matches I am looking forward to have been moved to the pre-show. So like anytime my interest in WWE dies down some,I get more into my local indy scene.
Last Saturday I went to the NWA Bayou Independent Wrestling show in my town. They mostly use LA and MS guys. With the only name on most shows people might have heard of is Vordell Walker. The promoter knew I planned on filming a few of the matches. So I got told when I and the other 2 guys that are filming got there to go ahead and come in.
So we got inside over an hour before they let the crowd in. Set up our equipment on the stage. And got to watch most of the wrestlers going over their matches.
The main event was for the NWA North American title. And was a taped fist match. The promoter let us know that the guy he uses as a camera man couldn't make the show. So he asked me to at the least film the main event. And let me know the match was gonna go all over the civic center. https://youtu.be/ym367e2IdL8
NWA Bayou Independent Wrestling Presents Hero's Downfall NWA North American Champion Tim Storm vs John "The Redneck Dean Malenko" Saxon in a taped fist match.
Sorry for some of it being a bit shaky. My bad nerves plus having to run all over the place made that happen.Hope yall enjoy this match starring two of the great wrestlers from the deep south. The same channel the above match is on,also has a bunch of other matches I have filmed. The promoter was so happy with it,that he wants us to come to every show in MS and film them. The next one will be in May. It is being sponsored by a local church. And they are bringing in The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase.
We have a group of about 15 to 20 local fans that are trying our best to get the word out about all the great wrestling going on in the deep south. We started a facebook group for the wrestlers and fans in MS. And over the course of 3 years it has grown into a nice pleasant place for the fans to talk to the wrestlers.
Finishing up the 4 hour long Hall of Fame show right now. Gonna watch Mania tonight with some friends. Already heard the results and sounds like a decent card.
Thanks to going to most local indy shows, owning a camera that shoots OK hd ,and having a somewhat steady hand,I have become part of the camera and commentary crew for 2 groups.
Well Saturday was a annual outdoor show. All local talent. Fun show since it had lots of kids. I recorded two matches, and joined the commentary team for 2 matches. Best bit was the town it was held is barely has 700 people. On the way in my ride commented on "hey Liberty has a subway now,so we got 3 places to choose from for lunch." So the heel in the opening match came out with a subway sandwich. And of course it got used in the match.
But Wednesday night was the best. Got a NWA fed outta West Monroe LA,yes the same town the duck dynasty guys are from, runs shows in my town 4 to 5 times a year.Tonight during the spring fair, the NWA promoter and a local mega church rented out the rodeo arena right next to the fairgrounds.
And since it is Mississippi and it is a church sponsored show that means there is gonna be a Dibiase there to preach a small bit and meet the fans.
Got to meet Ted Dibiase. A few weeks ago I got a copy of 2 tv episodes of the late 70s NWA Amarillo territory. And both shows have a young Ted Dibiase in tag matches. Gave Mr Dibiase a copy tonight. And you could tell he was very surprised. He thanked me at least 3 times "I know what I am watching on the ride home. Thank you so much sir."
Well if you have any interest in seeing my videos of various wrestling matches in small backwoods MS towns Funaki Jon Paul Youtube channel
That's fantastic. I met Ted at a fan event here in New England a year or two back and he couldn't have been nicer, which was awesome but still a little weird sharing a kind word with the evil Million Dollar Man. :))
See I grew up watching Ted Sr in Mid South,so when he left for WWF and went heel it shocked me.
But yeah super super nice guy.His youngest son ,who works the local indy scene.has invited a group of us to the Dibiase Mansion this summer for a pool party.
Should be interesting. The Dibiases are very religious and very conservative. And I am an Atheist and super liberal. Figure I will play it safe and just talk wrestling with them.
You make a decent Virgil, just a little too much hair though.
The hair is gone soon. Been growing out for locks of love. Normally, well since I was 12,I have always had a shaved head. And am coming to hate having hair.
You know, I love me some NXT, and even made the trek from Rhode Island to Albany, NY, to see their tour stop last weekend, but these non-ending endings on the Takeovers are really starting to piss me off. It's not even that Sami Zayn keeps not winning - though that has bugged me throughout his NXT career - it's that his matches with Owens never actually finish. I get that it's a way to say he has never officially lost to Owens, but I hate when any match, and especially a main event, ends in a no contest or a ref stoppage or something. It's frustrating, and it killed any excitement I might have felt for Samoa Joe's debut, too.
Save that shit for Raw, guys!
At least the women continue to tear it up, though. A lot of times they put on the best matches of the evening, and Unstoppable was no exception. I've been kind of lukewarm on Becky Lynch, but she kept up with Sasha and really proved herself in my eyes. She didn't win the belt, but that was still her coming out party and that may benefit her career even more in the long run.
Also, heel turn Alexa Bliss... I might enjoy that even more than Manic Pixie Dream Girl Alexa Bliss. :x
Good thing about ROH on DA is I won't have to stream the show anymore. The Sinclair show airs no wheres in my state.
Just found out the show I was suppose to film the day before Father's day is canceled. So now looks like I am going to the GFW show at the baseball field in Jackson that day instead. Local fan is renting out the luxury box.
I never liked him when I was a kid watching him wrestle, but I've heard anyone in the business say anything bad about him. The local sports talk show had on a guy this afternoon who’s a well known public announcer in the area. His first job was as a ring announcer for Dusty, and he worked with him for several years. He mentioned that it was Dusty’s idea to make Ron Simmons the first black heavyweight champ.
Listening to Renee Young weep her way through the transition from the Dusty tribute video to the next segment on the Money in the Bank pre-show was one of the most heartbreaking things I've experienced in a long time. That could not have been easy and it made me very happy to see so many people express their support of (and especially to) her.
