Granted, it is a little "Claire Voyant" ish, but this is the same world in which Basil Elks becomes Basilisk, and Blackagar Boltagon becomes Black Bolt. Even in the less hammer-over-the-head cases, names such as Stark, Creed, Power, Masters, or Maximoff are often evocative of the character. It's a thing they do in superhero fiction.
And, we don't even know that he'll have the whole 3-D Man angle. He may just get juiced with some Kree blood or something, get the augmented stats, and before long someone - my money is on Simmons - would just bequeath the name 'Triathlon' unto him as a play on his name.

My point is that it isn't the same world. Aside from this being the MCU, That was a world created in the 60s with the idea that kids wouldn't remember one day to the next, forget a character that appeared a month ago. They don't do this anymore. The next spider-powered character created isn't going to be named Bill Arachnis. I don't have a problem with evocative names, or alliterative names, but being on-the-nose takes me out of it, by putting a lampshade on exactly how fictional this character is.
Okay, I can see that differentiation. Triplett is unusual for the MCU in that he is one of the few whose name these writers have made up just now, as opposed to in the the 60's or 70's when most of the MCU characters were originally named. Ordinarily that would be enough for me to agree with you, in that modern names don't generally subscribe nearly as much to the old hokiness of days gone by, but these new MCU names are being written against the established backdrop of names like Fury, Hammer, Pierce, and Samson. I will concede that usually when they make up names now for the movies, they end up fairly mundane, like Darcy Lewis, but the TV show has already given us Ward and Skye and the ol' Fitz and Simmons pairing, yuk yuk yuk. In that light, it's not outside the realms of possibility that they would mess with us some more, and throw us a triple-powered character named Triplett.
That was a pretty good episode. Granted the whole Skye/Ward storyline does have a Lifetime movie feel but that's okay. Introduction of May's mom was cute. RIP Koenig! Not happy to see the lame-looking Deathlok is back next week.
Any guesses as to which organization Momma May is a member of? Atlas? Can't help but think the license plate shot as they drove off was somehow significant.

I missed that! What was it?
I don't know! I couldn't remember the letters/numbers. I was hoping that someone else caught it.
Ok, so the obvious play is that Triplett is Gabe Jones' grandson, but how awesome would it be if he a descendent of Dum Dum's? Tell me you don't want a McDonough flashback. I already want them to change his name to Trip Dugan.
I have absolutely no complaints about this episode...
Ok, just one...
Why do all the best eps end with someone falling out of the plane. It's as if they want to highlight their budgetary limitations, "enjoying this episode? Here's something that looks terrible and ridiculous!" Wasn't it enough to see Deathlok's hockey goalie outfit?

I think it would actually be kind of funny.
Ward must pay.

May's Mom sure is a good mom to go all that way.

@Matt: It's really looking like they're gonna be the A-Team in season two.
